Dates for your diary Summer break break up Friday 17 July return Monday 7 September Autumn half term break up Friday 23 October return Monday 2 November OFSTED – You should have received by now a copy of our Ofsted inspection report. We are very pleased that Ofsted consider Springwell to be a ‘good and continually improving school’. Thank you to all parents/carers who support school so well and in particular those who returned the questionnaire which was an important part of the inspectors report. Sports day – Thank you for supporting your child on our sports day. The children had a very enjoyable morning and picnic lunch. They very much appreciated having their ‘grown ups’ to watch them perform. Thanks also for supporting our cream scone café. Over £70 was made for school fund. Visits – Pupils have taken part in a range of visits this term. These have included: Tweddles Farm, Forbidden Corner, Big Sheep Little Cow, Wet and Wild and Alan Shearer Centre. I am sure that they all had a very interesting, fun and exciting time. Residential – 24 of our pupils visited the Westgate centre in the Wear valley in June. The weather was very mixed but they had a great time. They visited a range of locations in the Wear valley and also Barnard Castle as well as a trip to the Lake district where they climbed a mountain. Pupil Achievement – our results of pupil targets and achievement this year have shown that over 80% of our pupils have made ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ progress. None of our pupils made less than ‘satisfactory’ progress. Well done to the pupils and staff for all their hard work for this commendable result. School uniform – If your child needs any items of school uniform for September please get in touch with Heather our secretary. Don’t forget we are a uniformed school and our pupils look smart in their school outfit. Our prices are much less than other school suppliers in the town.Remember this is also a health and safety issue. We need to be able to identify our pupils at any time if they are on visits around or out of school. Tesco Vouchers – Thanks to everyone who sent in Tesco Vouchers we have ordered a range of equipment for school. We would particularly like to thank the Rotary Club who donated several thousand vouchers. Shop for Schools - Thanks to everyone who bought products in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre. We were awarded a TV, DVD Player and video camera. Fund Raising Event - The Engineers Club will be arranging a fund raising night for school later this year. These are usually really entertaining evenings with comedians and singers. If you would like tickets please let us know. School Meals – As from September the price of school meals will be £1.65 per day. £8.25 per week - still great value. We have excellent school meals which are very healthy and with a great choice. Tracey Hutchison - As I am sure you know Tracey will be leaving school at the end of term. She is to be Head of Evergreen School in Bishop Aukland.
