Welcome to Panda Class!

 

 

Our teacher is Louise Charlton.

Our teaching assistants are Rachel, Fiona, Lynn and Sandra.

 

Panda class is a class of 10 children with a variety of learning difficulties, alongside associated speech, language and communication difficulties.

 

On our class page you will find information about what we are learning in class and the many exciting events that are coming up throughout the year. We will also use this page to share photographs and videos of your child's learning and any other special activities that occur within our class.

Thursday 22nd June 2017: Dinosaur Cake - We love baking in Panda Class, so we made a Dinosaur Cake!

Tuesday 20th June 2017: Cod Beck - Panda Class went on a trip to Cod Beck with West View Project. we went for a walk around the reservoir, had a picnic and played in a nearby stream. We had a lovely day!

Friday 16th June 2017: Dino Jaws - Panda Class went to the Life Center in Newcastle. Here we went to the Dino Jaws exhibition and saw LOTS of Dinosaurs. We could name most of them, as we have been learning all about different dinosaurs lately. They were amazing! We also looked at the different parts of the museum, we took part in experiments and watched some different shows and demonstrations. WE LOVED IT!

Friday 14th June 2017: Planting - In Science, Panda Class have been learning about plants, what they need to grow, and the different parts of a plant. We planted our own Sunflower seeds and then planted different seeds in our garden area. We can wait to see what they look like when they begin to grow!

Thursday 13th June 2017: Climbing Wall - Panda Class enjoyed spending time on the climbing wall! It was VERY high!!!

Monday 12th June 2017: Hartlepool Museum - As part of our topic work, Panda Class went to Hartlepool Museum and learnt about old and new seaside holidays. We looked at the different clothes and toys that children would play with at the seaside in the olden days and now.

Wednesday 7th June 2017: Netball - Panda Class took part in a Netball tournament at The Sports Domes.

Wednesday 24th May 2017: Materials - Panda Class have been learning all about different materials in working environments, we found lots of different materials on a trip to the park!

Monday 22nd May 2017: Tesco's farm to Fork - Panda Class went on a little trip to Tesco to learn all about food and how different foods are made and stored.

Friday 19th May 2017: Seaton Arcades - After learning about money in Maths, Panda Class went to the arcades! We saw lots of different types of coins. We even stopped for an ice-cream afterwards.

Thursday 18th May 2017: Dinosaur Eggs - In Panda Class, we made our very own Dinosaur Eggs. To make them we used flour, salt coffee and water.

Thursday 18th May 2017: Pound! - In P.E., Panda Class took part in a Pound fitness class. Each child was given a set of drumsticks and had different routines to follow. It was very FUN!!!

Friday 12th May 2017: Tweddle Farm - Panda Class went to Tweddle Farm to look for the different 2D and 3D shapes in the environment. We also enjoyed seeing all the animals!

Thursday 11th May 2017: Making a 3D Dinosaur - In Maths, we have been learning all about 3D shapes. Some of the children made a Dinosaur using different 3D shaped boxes and painted it green!

Wednesday 10th May 2017: Dinosaur Biscuits - In Cookery, Panda Class made Dinosaur Biscuits and decorated them with green icing and different coloured patterns.

Monday 8th May 2017: Dinosaur Eggs - Panda Class made their very own Dinosaur Eggs in art, using card and split pins. They were all very colourful.

Friday 5th May 2017: Dinosaur Park - Panda Class went on a trip to a park and found lots of Dinosaurs! They were VERY big!

Wednesday 3rd May 2017: Shape Dinosaurs - In Maths, some of the children in Panda Class made some dinosaurs out of different shapes.

Wednesday 3rd May 2017: Materials - In Science, panda class have been learning about different materials. We found lots of different materials in the classroom and around school.

Thursday 27th April 2017: Painting Dinosaurs - Jodie and Kayla enjoyed painting dinosaurs for our Dinosaur land!

Wednesday 26th April 2017: Peg Dolls - After learning about the Victorian times, we looked at some of the different toys the children would have. We made our own peg dolls!

Wednesday 26th May 2017: Dinosaur Land - After learning about Dinosaurs, green group have made their very own dinosaur land, using sand, felt and other materials.

Monday 24th April 2017: Beamish - Panda and Dragon class went on a trip to Beamish. We looked at the different Victorian style buildings, visiting the dentist, fair ground and sweet shop. We also made ginger biscuits and lavender bags!

Wednesday 19th April 2017: 1 to 5 - Sophie and Evie ordered numbers 1 to 5 in maths. Well done girls!

Friday 31st March 2017: Easter Activities - Panda Class had lots of fun doing different Easter activities during the last day of term. We made Easter nests and went on an Easter egg hunt!

Thursday 29th March 2017: Block Graphs - Some of the children in Panda Class have been learning how to make block graphs.

Monday 27th March 2017: Centre for Life - Panda Class went to the Centre for Life in Newcastle. They learnt all about the human body. What we have inside and outside our bodies and what we can eat that is good for our bodies. It was very interesting!

Friday 24th March 2017: Science Fun! - Panda Class enjoyed a science workshop. They made slime and watched lots of different experiments. It was great fun!

Friday 24th March 2017: Red Nose Day Cakes - Panda Class made cakes for Red Nose Day!

Friday 24th March 2017: Kayla's Surprise - Panda Class retold their own version of Handa's Surprise!

Thursday 23rd March 2017: Mother's Day Cards - Panda Class made their own cards for Mother's Day!

Wednesday 22nd March 2017: Tasting fruits from Handa's Surprise - Some of the children in Panda Class tasted the different fruits from the story Handa's Surprise. They recorded whether they liked or disliked them and chose their favorites.

Monday 20th March 2017: Handa's Surprise - After reading the story 'Handa's Surprise', Panda Class went to Morrisons to buy the different fruits from the story. Some of them we have never tried before.

Thursday 16th March 2017: Sambuca - After learning about Italy and different foods people eat in Italy, Panda Class went to a restaurant called 'Sambuca'. Here we had a lovely three course meal, including pizzas. It was delicious!

Wednesday 15th March 2017: Making Pizzas - After reading the story 'The Little Red Hen makes a Pizza', the children in Panda Class designed and then made their own pizzas.

Wednesday 15th March 2017: Halves and Quarters - In Maths we have been learning about halves and quarters. Panda Class cut different pies into halves and quarters, before tasting them.

Tuesday 14th March 2017: Maths, Pi Day - Panda Class celebrated World Pi Day!

Monday 13th March 2017: Little Red Hens - After reading the story of 'The Little Red Hen' some of the children in Panda Class made hand print little red hens.

Thursday 9th March 2017: Making Burgers - After reading the story of 'Burger Boy', Panda Class made their own burgers.

Friday 3rd March 2017: Tiger Masks - The whole school read the book 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' for World Book Day 2017. Panda Class made their own Tiger masks.

Friday 3rd March 2017: Number 6 - Some children in Panda Class used the sand pit to form the number 6.

Wednesday 1st March 2017: Wolf Pancakes - For our class assembly we made wolf shaped pancakes. They were amazing!

Monday 27th February 2017: Making Bread - Panda Class made some wholewheat bread. The children took turns to mix the ingredients and knead the dough.

Thursday 23rd February 2017: Making Porridge - After reading the story 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears', some of the children in Panda Class made porridge. It was very yummy!

Thursday 23rd February 2017: Printing Pictures - Children in Panda Class used different fruits and vegetables to print and make pictures.

Wednesday 8th February 2017: Teesmouth - Panda Class went on a trip to Teesmouth centre and learn all about different types of rocks. We then went to the beach to find different rocks and shells.

Thursday 2nd February: Making Fruit Salad - After reading the story Oliver's Fruit Salad, Panda Class tried a selection of different fruits, then chose their favorites to make and prepare their own personal fruit salad. They were all very tasty!!!

Monday 30th January 2017: Making Vegetable Soup - Panda Class prepared different vegetables to make their own Vegetable Soup. It was DELICIOUS!

Friday 27th January 2017: Tasting foods from Oliver's Vegetables - Panda Class tasted all of the foods they found in the book Oliver's Vegetables.

Wednesday 25th January 2017: Morrison's! - Panda Class went to Morrison's and found all of the foods that are in the book, Oliver's Vegetables.

Wednesday 25th January 2017: Library! - The ladies from Throston Library come into Panda Class each Wednesday morning. They read a few stories with different props, then do arts and crafts to go with the story they have just read. The children always enjoy it very much!

Tuesday 24th January 2017: Oliver's Vegetables - In Literacy, Panda Class have been reading and learning all about the story 'Oliver's Vegetables'. here are the children acting out this story!

Friday 20th January 2017: Fizzy Izzy's - Our topic this term is 'what's for tea?'. In class we have a role-play area and this term it is set up as a cafe. We had a little trip to Fizzy Izzy's to see how a cafe works. Each child looked at the menu and ordered their own ice-cream!

Wednesday 18th January 2017: The Great Fire of London - In History, Panda Class have been learning all about the Great Fire of London. We made houses with flames coming out of them!

Tuesday 17th January 2017: Heavier and Lighter - Children in Panda Class used scales to weigh different items, they found that some items were lighter/heavier than others.

Thursday 12th January 2017: Fruit Faces - After learning about the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who painted faces using different fruit and vegetables, Panda Class made their own fruit faces. We even ate some of the fruit too!

Wednesday 11th January 2017: Making/Decorating Gingerbread Men - After reading the story of The Gingerbread Man, Panda Class made their own gingerbread men! They are AMAZING!

Tuesday 10th January 2017: The Gingerbread Man - Some of the children in Panda Class used finger puppets to act out the story of The Gingerbread Man.

Tuesday 20th December 2016: It's Santa!!! - Santa came to visit all the children in Springwell School. He brought some lovely presents for the very excited children in Panda Class.

Monday 19th December 2016: Christmas Party! - Panda Class had the BEST time at the school Christmas party!

Friday 16th December 2016: Making Musical Instruments - After learning about sounds in Science, Panda Class made their own Christmas Shakers!

Tuesday 13th December 2016: Meeting Paralympic Swimmers - Panda Class had the chance to meet two Paralympic swimmers who were in the 2016 games, in Rio. Josef Craig who won a bronze medal and Matthew Wylie who won a gold medal. We listened to their stories and even got a chance to have a swimming lesson with them!

Friday 9th December 2016: Decorating the Christmas Tree at St. Hild's Church - Panda Class had a lovely time decorating our Christmas Tree at St. Hild's Church!

Thursday 8th December 2016: Tasting Indian Foods - Panda Class tried lots of different Indian foods. We tried, Poppadoms with Mango Chutney, Onion Bhaji, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Jalfrezi, Pilau Rice, Naan Bread and the delicious Coconut Squares that we made ourselves. It was all very yummy!

Wednesday 7th December 2016: Diwali Lanterns - As part of our R.E. lesson, after learning all about the Indian festival of Diwali, Panda Class made their own Diwali Lanterns.

Wednesday 7th December 2016: Indian Coconut Squares - Panda class have been learning all about India. One of their traditional desserts is called 'Coconut Squares' and we made some. They were very sticky to make. We used condensed milk, icing sugar and desiccated coconut!

Thursday 1st December 2016: Making Chinese Dragons - After learning all about China, panda class made some traditional Chinese Dragons. They are all very bright and colourful!

Wednesday 30th November 2016: Printing 3D Shapes - Panda class have been learning all about 3D shapes. We printed different 3D shapes to see what 2D shapes we could find in them.

Monday 21st November 2016: Stockton and Wyevale Garden Centre - Panda class loved all the Christmas lights at the garden centre.

Monday 21st November 2016: Pet Mania - Panda class went on a trip to Pet Mania with Dragon class. We looked at the animals and even got a chance to touch them!

Thursday 17th November 2016: Blossom Tree Paintings - Panda class are learning about China. In art, we made our own blossom tree paintings. They are beautiful!

Tuesday 15th November 2016: Sand Timers - For maths we did lots of little tests on what we could do in 1 minute. Some children were able to eat one whole biscuit in 1 minute, some children could do 20 star jumps in 1 minute, along with some other tasks. It was a very fun maths lesson!

Friday 11th November 2016: Subtracting - Some children in panda class used a number line to help them with subtraction sums. We have some great mathematicians in panda class!

Monday 7th November 2016: Panda Masks - After learning about Pandas, we made our own Panda masks!

Friday 4th November 2016: Roker Park - Panda class went on a trip to Roker Park to loko at the themed lights. The theme this year was pirates!

Thursday 3rd November 2016: Bread stick Fireworks - Panda class made fireworks using bread sticks, melted chocolate and sprinkles!

Thursday 3rd November 2016: Fireworks Pictures - Panda class made firework pictures using chalk, especially for Bonfire Night. 'Remember remeber the 5th of November!'

Wednesday 2nd November 2016: Rocks - Panda class learnt all about rocks. We learnt about their colours, texture and found different items made of rock within school.

Monday 31st October 2016: Halloween Party - Panda class had lots of fun during their Halloween party. Lots of scary costumes and very fun activities!

Wednesday 19th October 2016: Making Sukkot Fruit Punch - in R.E. we have been learning about the Jewish festival, Sukkot. We made our very own Sukkot Fruit Punch. Some children loved it and thought it was very tasty, other children didn't enjoy it so much.

Monday 17th October 2016: Position - In maths, panda class have been leaving about positioning. Children were asked to stand on, under, next to or beside a certain object.

Friday 14th October 2016: Planting Beanstalks - Panda class planted their very own beanstalks to go with the Jack and the Beanstalk story!

Wednesday 12th October 2016: Maths - Some of the children in panda class used cubes to measure pictures of different things.

Wednesday 12th October 2016: Baking our Castle Cake - Panda class made the BEST castle cake!

Monday 10th October 2016: Music - Panda class had lots of fun in music, guessing the instruments and having a dance!

Monday 10th October 2016: Making Castles - Panda class began to make castles to go with our new story, Jack and the Beanstalk! FE FI FO FUM!!!

Friday 7th October 2016: Hardwick Park - Panda class went on a trip to Hardwick Park to see Rapunzel's tower! It was SOOO big!

Thursday 6th October 2016: Making Rapunzel Towers - After learning all about the story Rapunzel, panda class made their own Rapunzel towers. We even shouted 'Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your hair!' and she let down her lovely golden locks!

Tuesday 4th October 2016: Rapunzel - Some of the children from panda class told the story of Rapunzel using a puppet show, there were lots of very good actors and actresses!

Tuesday 4th October 2016: Looking For Patterns - As part of our maths lesson, panda class went around school to try and find different patterns.

Monday 3rd October 2016: Durham - Panda class went to Durham to visit the Oriental Museum and we had our lunch at a Chinese Buffet Restaurant. We had a lovely day!

Friday 30th September 2016: Ward Jackson Park - After learning about autumn, panda class went looking for leaves in Ward Jackson Park. We had lots of fun at the play area too!

Friday 30th September 2016: Snails Shells - Panda class used the different shapes we've been learning about in Maths to decorate snails shells. They are beautiful shells!

Thursday 29th September 2016: Making the Big Bad Wolf and Three Little Pigs - Some children in panda class made the big bad wolf and pigs for our display in class.

Wednesday 28th September 2016: Baking Bread Plaits - Panda class made their very own bread plaits which were part of the Seder plate we learnt about in our R.E. lesson about the Jewish Festival of Shabbat.

Tuesday 27th September 2016: Height - For part of our Maths lesson, panda class looked at the different heights of things, how tall and short things are!

Monday 26th September 2016: Shabbat - As part of our R.E. lesson, panda class learnt all about the Jewish festival, Shabbat. We tried lots of different foods that are part of a Seder Plate. Panda class liked most of the foods they tried, however they weren't too keen on the mint and apple sauce mixed with cinnamon!

Monday 26th September 2016: Making Three Little Pigs Houses - Panda class made the three little pigs Straw, stick and brick houses!

Monday 26th September 2016: Hedgehogs - After learning all about seasons, we learnt that the current season is Autumn. During autumn, the leaves change colour and then fall off the trees. We used these leaves to make Hedgehog pictures.

Friday 23rd September 2016: Tweddle Farm - Panda class went on a trip to Tweddle Farm to look for the pigs from in the story The Three Little Pigs. The pigs were very sleepy, must be after running away from the BIG BAD WOLF. We also had lots of fun in the play areas!

Wednesday 21st September 2016: Baking Pig Cakes - Panda class baked and decorated cakes to go with our Three Little Pigs story. They were very fun to make (and very yummy too!).

Monday 19th September 2016: Making Paper Hansel and Gretel Houses - After learning all about the story of Hansel and Gretel, children in Panda Class made their very own Hansel and Gretel houses using paper. Practicing their cutting and sticking skills, not forgetting to add lots of sparkly sequins.

Monday 19th September 2016: Jackson Pollock - Panda class learnt all about the artist, Jackson Pollock. They each made their own Jackson Pollock style paintings, by splatting paint all over their paper. It was VERY fun and VERY messy!

Wednesday 14th September 2016: Numicon - Panda class used numicon as part of their maths lesson.

Friday 9th September 2016: Headland Beach - Panda class went to the beach at the Headland to look for different rocks and shells, as part of our science topic this term.

Wednesday 7th September 2016: Making Gingerbread Houses - In cookery we made gingerbread in house shapes, to go with our Hansel and Gretel story. We decorated them with different sweets. They were very tasty!
