Summer Term

Please see below an outline of the learning that will take place in Lions Class in the Summer term.

30th June 2025 - The second group of children had a fantastic trip to Seaton and a ride on the train today. What fun!

June 2025 Making Fathers Day Cards!

16th June 2025 Lion Class had lots of fun engaging in water play in our sensory garden!

Monday 9th June

Train Ride to Hartlepool

As part of our 'Journeys' topic this term, some children from Lion Class had the opportunity to go on a short train journey from Seaton Carew to Hartlepool station. We bought our tickets, explored the train station and waited excitedly for the train to arrive. We loved looking out of the windows as we saw the trees whizz by. What an adventure we had!

Thursday 5th June

Fruit Smoothies

In Cookery today we made fruit smoothies with the fruit we previously explored from Handa's Surprise. We worked on our physical development by using our bodies to access the switch to power the blender.

Wednesday 4th June

Handa's Surprise sensory exploration

We listened to the story of Handa's Surprise as we move to Kenya as part of our 'Journeys' topic. We used all our senses to explore the fruits and used switches to help tell the story. 

Tuesday 3rd June

Communication activities in the pool

This morning we worked on developing our communication skills while in the hydrotherapy pool. We used our eye gaze to make choices about which activity to do next. 

Monday 2nd June

Fun in the park

To kick start the second half of our summer term we walked to the park and had lots of fun with the parachute and bubbles. We also spotted some ducklings and cygnets on our journey around the pond. 

Thursday 22nd May

Earlier this week we went on a journey to ALDI to choose and buy ingredients for our cookery session today. We had lots of laughs making cheese scones and fruit scones and then tasted the end product. They were delicious!

Wednesday 21st May

Exploring farmyard animals 

Today we explored the noises that farmyard animals make. We used switches to hear the sounds and match them to the correct animal. We did this using our eye gaze and through gesture. We then looked at some animals and their babies and matched them together. We worked super hard today!

Monday 19th May

Bus journey to Summerhill country park 

We ventured out for a walk around Summerhill today, exploring the sights and sounds of nature. 

Recently we have been reading The Train Ride as our 'Love of Reading' text. We have been exploring England as our focus country and in particular have been looking at farm animals. We made sheep in our Art session this week.  

 

We love to celebrate birthdays throughout the year in Lion Class and especially love singing, dancing and cake! 

Thursday 15th May

Ronnie came to visit us again...

We love our monthly visits from Ronnie. Today he could smell the apple crumble we made in cookery and was distracted looking for food. We love giving him strokes and watching him interact with everyone. 

We're going on a bear hunt... we're going to catch a big one... 

We have been exploring the story of We're going on a bear hunt in class this week. We enjoyed exploring the sensory materials from the story with our feet and our hands! 

 

Passive Movements 

We take part in weekly physio sessions to support the movement of our upper body as well as our lower limbs. We sing songs as we stretch, move and interact with an adult during this important time to support the development and strengthening of our muscles. 

Thursday 8th May

The Sheep who couldn't sleep - A Timbadash performance

This afternoon we engaged in a wonderful, immersive, sensory experience in the hall by Timbadash theatre company. We listened to the story and songs and explored numerous sensory props as we delved into the story of Shauna the sheep. 

 

Tuesday 6th May

A Train Ride Through India - A Sensory Story

This week we have begun to explore our sensory story. We will continue to explore this throughout the term, building up our attention and anticipatory skills as we get to know the story well. We explored the sights, sounds and smells from the story and used switches to create the effect of the warm wind on our faces. 

 

 

Thursday 1st May

Sensory cookery - onion bhajis 

Today we explored the ingredients to make onion bhajis. We smelled all the spices and mixed the ingredients. We safely listened to the sizzle of the bhajis as they fried in the hot oil. 

Wednesday 30th April

Sensory Indian flag

This week we have begun our new Journeys topic. We begin our journey around the world in India. We explored the smells and textures associated with India to create a sensory flag. 

Tuesday 29th April

Exploring our new playground

This morning we ventured into the newly installed outdoor play area - we tested out some of the new equipment; we especially loved the swings!

Monday 28th April

We began our Summer term topic of 'Journeys' with a sunny walk to Ward Jackson park this morning!
