Easter egg hunt
This afternoon we had a very special visit from the Easter Bunny who took us on an egg hunt and at the end of our journey, we received special Easter gifts! What a treat to end the term!
Thursday 10th April
Easter Church Service
This morning we had a whole school trip to St Hild's Church where we celebrated the Easter story, acted out by children from across the school. We had lots of fun taking part and learning about the story of Easter.
Wednesday 9th April
Easter crafts
Today we used a fork to create a chick Easter painting. We worked very hard to make the marks on the paper, sometimes with help from an adult.
Tuesday 8th April
Hartfields Easter visit
We joined the residents of Hartfields in a celebration this afternoon. There was music and dancing and Lion Class were very kindly gifted a special Easter treat bag each by the residents, who absolutely love to see the children. The children developed their social skills by interacting with new and familiar people and worked on their communication skills.

Easter egg rolling
We had great fun making choices of which colour egg we wanted to roll down the ramp in our egg rolling competition!

Easter crafts
We reacted in different ways to the feeling of paint on our feet in our sensory art session today. We have begun to create our Easter cards! Look out for these coming home at the end of term!

Exploring books in the central library
This morning some children from Lion Class visited the library in town and shared some books while we were there. We read a lovely book all about Easter!

Class Assembly
We love to share our learning with our families in our class assemblies. We joined together with Elephant class to celebrate the ladies in our lives for Mother's Day. What a celebration!

Planting sunflower seeds
Now that Spring has sprung, we planted our own sunflower seeds and watered them to help them grow!

We have been working on our own individual targets in the swimming pool over the past half term. We love the water!

Today Lions Class have celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by sporting odd socks!

First library trip of 2025
We were welcomed back to Throston library this afternoon after a period of closure due to refurbishment. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story 'Choo, Choo, Clickety-Clack', singing nursery rhymes and ending the session with a drawing activity. We will be attending the library once every 2 weeks for this fun 'Rhyme Time' session.

Soft Play
We had a different start to the week this week, with a soft play session on Monday morning. We loved relaxing in the ball pool and exploring the play frame where we could.

Holi - Hindu Festival of Colour
Today we had fabulous fun with colour to celebrate Holi, the Hindu Festival.
Thursday 13th March
Cinder toffee making
In cookery this morning we made cinder toffee. We watched as the bicarbonate of soda made the sugary liquid expand as it was mixed together. We loved exploring the ingredients and smelling the toffee when it was ready!

Science Day
This morning we had great fun exploring a range of Science themed sensory activities in the hall. We used all our senses to explore fruit and vegetables, magnets, colour, water and ice and we even watched a 'volcanic eruption'.

World Book Day
We had a fantastic day celebrating our love of reading in class for World Book Day. We dressed up, brought in our favourite books from home and enjoyed listening to stories being read to us by children from Sharks Class.
This week...
We have begun to explore our new sensory story about space called 'Journey into Space'. We have explored the objects from the story and created beautiful sensory artwork of Earth. Part of our story describes how Venus smells of garlic and so, of course we made garlic bread in cookery.
As we continue to explore this story over the coming weeks, we will take part in a range of sensory activities including art, cookery, science, sensory massage and music.

We celebrated Shrove Tuesday in class by making yummy pancakes!

Hand washing
This afternoon we learnt all about the importance of washing our hands. We listened to a story, explored a special light that shows the germs on our hands and then explored the soapy water as we washed our hands together!

World Book Day shopping
This morning we ventured out on the bus into town to use our World Book Day vouchers to collect our free books. We explored the books and chose our own to take back to school. We will be bringing our new books home on World Book Day after we have explored and read them in class.

Celebration Assembly
Lion Class joined the rest of the school for the weekly Celebration Assembly this afternoon. We were all awarded 'Good as Gold' stickers for our hard work this week and one of us even received the 'Wonderful' award for trying new things and being extra polite! Well Done, Lions!

Ronnie the therapy dog came to visit
Ronnie and Val popped in to see us in class this morning. He was so friendly, we loved stroking him as we worked hard in our standers.

Class Assembly
This afternoon we were joined by our families to celebrate the work we have been doing in class all about 'LOVE', ready for Valentine's Day! We had some fun with the valentine's resources and listened to all the reasons why our families love us so much!
Tuesday 11th February
Safer Internet Day
Today we listened to a story all about strangers and how we can't always trust someone just because they're cute or offer us sweeties! It was called 'Cutest Little Alien'. We explored the sensory resources and navigated our way through the story by touching the board to hear the next part. We then explored a range of cause and effect toys.
Friday 7th February
Number Day Fun
WOW! What fun we had today with lots of number themed activities. We hunted for numicon pieces in a range of sensory materials, used the pieces to make marks in the playdough, counted as we banged the drum, poured the porridge oats and used the switch to listen to a range of number nursery rhymes. Some of us decided to go all out with our number themed costumes too! Don't we look fabulous!

We had lots of fun this morning with some bouncing, swinging and exploring the resonance board with different vibrating toys.

Sensory Cookery - Stir fry
As part of our Chinese New Year celebrations, we explored a range of smells, tastes, sounds and textures as we worked together to create a stir fry. We used our communication methods to choose our favourite smells and to indicate those we didn't quite enjoy!

Chinese Lanterns
We decorated our own Chinese lanterns as part of our Chinese New Year celebrations.We worked together to paste the glue and press down the red and gold paper. We learnt that red is considered a lucky colour in China.

Chinese New Year Assembly
We listened to Sam tell the story of the Zodiac and explored the animals from the story. We enjoyed spending some time with our peers from other classes.

Chinese New Year
We had a wonderful morning learning about Chinese New Year and exploring the artefacts linked to the celebration. We learnt that people clean and sweep to remove bad luck from their homes, they consider red to be a lucky colour and dragon dances are performed as part of the celebrations.

Local trip to the pet store
Today on our bus trip we visited Pets at Home to see the guinea pigs, gerbils and fish for sale. We watched as the animals moved around in their habitats and looked at the pretty colours of the different fish.
Weekly Readers
We are very lucky to have children from Sharks class coming each Thursday to read with us. We listened and watched as our peers read the story, showed us the pictures and comforted us throughout. We look forward to this session each week!
Thursday 23rd January
Share a Story Family Session
We had such a special afternoon sharing our sensory story with our families. There were smiles and giggles as we shared this time with our loved ones and after exploring the sensory resources, we decorated the shortbread biscuits we made this morning in class!

We used our communication methods to choose which colour we wanted to use to create our elephant art work. We then used our hands to explore the paint and make marks on the paper.

Sensory Exploration
We used our senses to explore a range of materials today linked to our weather topic. We felt the cold of the snow in winter and the crunching sound of the leaves in autumn.

Thursday 16th January
Sensory Cookery - Crustless Quiche
We baked a broccoli, bacon, ham and cheese crustless quiche today as part of our sensory cookery session. We explored the feel and smell of the ingredients, helped to cut, whisk and pour the mixture into the baking tins. We also worked super hard in our standers as we took part in cookery today.

Colour mixing
We made choices of which colours we wanted to use to create our artwork. We then worked with an adult to create a wonderful rainbow inspired painting.
Thursday 9th January
Sensory Cookery - Sun dried tomato and onion bread
What a fun baking session today! We explored the ingredients, poured the water, mixed it together, kneaded the dough, watched it rise and (where possible) tasted the end result. There was a wonderful aroma in the classroom as the bread baked in the oven.

Sensory exploration
As part of our key text of 'Elmer's weather', we explored different coloured paints with our hands and feet. Stay tuned to see the final product of our hard work to create our very own Elmer elephant piece of art.

Sensory Story - Elmer's Weather
Our sensory story over the next few weeks is Elmer's Weather. We explored props from the story and used switches to create the wind that blew Elmer away in the story!

Number Songs
We began the new year with some number nursery rhymes - exploring, tracking, splashing water and knocking down the green bottles as we sang the songs. We had lots of fun knocking over the green bottles when we weren't supposed to!
