Springwell School Speech and Language Teaching Assistant
Hello,
Just a quick message to introduce ourselves and tell you a little bit about what we do in school.
There are 3 Speech And Language Teaching Assistants (SALTA) in Springwell School now:
Nicola, Kyra and Emma.
We have all worked for Springwell School for a number of years now. Kyra has been a SALTA for 4 years now where as Nicola and Emma are new to the team.
Our role in school is to liaise with parents and carers, teachers, teaching assistants, NHS speech therapists and any other professionals who may be involved with the child.
We currently have many children on our case load. We see children on a 1-1 basis, group therapy and whole class sessions.
These sessions are structured around the assessments which the child's NHS therapist has carried out.
We try to make each session fun and engaging, no matter what the objectives are. This way the children are eager to join in and learn new strategies to help them with their communication and understanding, without realising.
At the moment sessions include:
* one peer communication group, which two classes participate in
* 1-1 therapy
* communication aid support around school
* Makaton signing support around school
*Early Talk Boost
* Eye Gaze
*Communicate in Print
* make resources for school, as well as for in the home
and more to be added in September.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on the school number 01429 280600
I will always try my best to help.
Week Beginning 24.6.24
This week in some of our sessions we have been making 'silly sentences' The children used the different colours (the same system as with colour semantics) to make the sentence, but they have to complete the sentence by using capital letters as sentence starter, describe an object and complete sentence with a full stop. We had some very silly sentences e.g. The crocodile jumped on the hairy sandwich'.
