Emotional Well-being

This week we will be looking at moving on - be that to a new school or to a new class. We will be completing little booklets that will explain our likes and dislikes and telling new people all about ourselves. You might like to do this at home ready for when you return in September.

Remember Pandas that this is the last week of the school year so this work would have been interspersed with the odd DVD and the odd extended playtime whilst we tidied cupboards and emptied drawers!! So take it easy and get outside and enjoy the sunshine when you can and we'll be looking forward to seeing you all in September (even if for most of you that means seeing our faces squashed up against the windows of Dragon class).

Happy summer holidays everyone.

Hello Panda Class

This week please make sure you are reading regularly - remember it doesn't have to be school style reading books, it can be any books you like, magazines, cartoons or even the instructions for building lego.

This website is good to look at for English and Maths practice: look at the section for ages 5-7.

Remember to take care of yourselves and your families and be good for the people looking after you.

See you soon

Hi Pandas

See you soon

Hello Pandas

I hope everyone is continuing to be well and making the most of this unexpected time with thier families. How did you get on with your time capsule? Once again I woud like to draw your attention to the BBC bitesize website - they really do have some great English and Maths activities on there. Remember to chose Year 1 or Year 2 activities.

Take care everyone, maybe see you soon

Caroline

Hello Pandas

I hope everyone is keeping well and managing to keep themselves busy. Did you have a VE day party? If you have any photos and would like to share them please send them to this email address: admin.springwell@school.hartlepool.gov.uk  and I'm sure they'll be forwarded on to me.

This current period of time will be a point in history that will also be looked back upon, therfore this week I would like you to make your own time capsule. Any sort of strong cardboard box or plastic or tin tub would be ideal (like an old chocolate tin from Christmas). Fill your container with anything you think represents this period of time for you;

  • maybe a toilet roll tube (to show the panic shopping and how these became precious to us)
  • empty hand sanitiser tube or liqiud soap container (to show how important washing our hands was)
  • a drawing of a rainbow (to show how important this symbol was to us and how you probably have one in your window)
  • a piece of work you have been set by me (to show how you had to complete jobs at home because you weren't going to school anymore).

I'm sure you will add to this list because you have a better imagination than me!

With the help of your adult, can you also write a little letter to place in your time capsule for a person from the future to read? Explain how this period of time is, talk about your experience of Covid-19, how has it made you feel, what things have you been up to, what is life like for a child during this time?

Decorate your container and then bury it in your garden (maybe not if it's cardboard) or hide it in a corner of your loft for someone from the future to find. If you would like to share any photos of this I would love to see them but no pressure intended!!!!

Take care of yourselves and your families and remember to stay safe.

Caroline

Hello there Pandas,

On Friday of this week it is a celebration of 75 years since VE Day (victory in Europe). Therefore I think you need to concentrate on planning a party this week.

  • Make some bunting to decorate your house - traditionally it would be a Union Jack flag (remember we did this earlier in the year when we looked at the countries that made up the UK ) but you can make your bunting look any way you like.
  • Plan a party menu.
  • Design and send an invitation to the other people in your house.
  • On Friday help to make the food you decided upon - are you going to make sandwiches or little fairy cakes?

Don't forget to put on a party outfit and enjoy the day (we'll keep our fingers crossed for nice weather).

Hello my panda cubs,

This week I would like you to look at the story Cinderella. Watch the story via the link below and then complete the following tasks:

  • chose 2 characters, draw them and write adjectives (remember these are describing words) for each of the characters around the drawing;
  • try to remember the beginning, middle and ending of the story, draw a picture to show each part of the story and write a couple of sentences to describe what is happening at that part of the story;
  • design your own party invitation, who would you like to invite?

Cinderella Fairy Tale

The new BBC Bitesize website is particularly brilliant at offering weekly lessons on a range of subjects. If you want to look at this please look at the year 1 work.

Remember to take care of each other

Good Morning Pandas and welcome to another week at home.

This week your task is to look at recycling within your house, Wednesday is International Earth Day and I thought this was a great opportunity to share with your family what you have learnt about recycling in class. Look at the items you are throwing in the bin:

  • make your own recycling bins and help sort the rubbish from now on.
  • make a recycled animal from the boxes and cartons you are throwing away (remember the dinosaurs we made in class)

Don't forget about the websites metioned in the first week of learning from home:

www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/primary

www.ictgames.com

www.crickweb.co.uk

Most importantly don't forget to get outside and enjoy the nice weather. Take care of yourselves and your families and I hope to see you all soon.

Good morning Panda Class and welcome to the Easter Holidays !!!

To try and be as normal as we can be in these very different times there will be no work set by me for the next 2 weeks because it should now be your Easter Holidays. So try to relax and enjoy yourself and don't forget to eat as much chocolate as you can get your little paws on.

Happy Easter

Caroline

30/03/20

Good Morning my panda cubs,

Your task for this week is to find an example of each of the following material in your home:

glass

plastic

wood

metal

clay/brick.

When you have a good example of each, draw and label an image of each and write a sentence for each material explaining why this material was used to make this object. Can you recognise it's unique properties and why it was used? Remember the Science work we have been doing in school recently.

Good luck yes

Caroline

26/03/20

Good Afternoon,

A little activity you may be interested in: ask your child to make/draw/paint a rainbow image and then take a photo of the finished product and email it to postcards@springwellschool.co.uk . We will combine with Catcote School to make a video of the images our children design. This is a little project going on across the country to try and keep everyone's spirits up in these difficult times. The idea being that you would then place your rainbow image in your window for everyone to see.

Enjoy yourselves

Caroline

Hello Parents and Carers

Here are a few ideas of websites that may be helpful over the coming weeks to keep your little cherubs occupied but remember the most important thing is to keep your family safe. You don't need to replicate a school day!

www.cosmickids.com

www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/primary

www.ictgames.com

www.crickweb.co.uk

When looking at phonics or Letters and Sounds activities look at 'phase' 2 and 3.  With Maths activities look for Year 1 based learning. Look out for Peace Out on You Tube for meditation activities - the children are used to doing this in class.

This is a little schedule you may like to follow but seriously don't stress about it, it's just to give you a few ideas.

I'll be in contact via this page soon.

Thanks for your continued support and understanding

Caroline

Welcome to Panda Class

Our teacher is Caroline Derbyshire and our classroom assistants are Claire, Becca, and Karen.

Panda class is made up of 10 brilliant KS2 aged children who have a variety of learning needs.

                                                     Panda Class became Fire Fighters!

Look who came to visit us!!! We loved meeting the fire brigade and exploring the equipment that they use.

                                                            A visit from Maisie

We loved playing with Maisie the PAT dog in Panda Class!

                                                                       Science

In science we have been learning all about habitats! We have looked at micro- habitats within our school grounds and researched larger habitat. We then used adjectives to describe some different micro-habitats and researched larger habitats. With all of our research we even made some of our own habitat boxes and they look amazing!

Computing - We Are Treasure Hunters

We learnt how to give each other precise instructions, to reach a specific destination. We also learnt how to program a robot to search a specific destination.

R.E. - Caring For Others

We have looked at the different ways different  religions look after people ; in Hinduism the celebration of Raksha Bandhan and in Sikhism the Langar Meal.

Christmas

We had a great time at Christmas and took part in a variety of activities such as; decorating a tree at St. Hilda's Church, performing a play about aliens landing on Earth at Christmas time and we had a party.

Makaton CarPark Karaoke - Wonderful World - Singing Hands

Makaton #WonderfulWorld We do a lot of travelling by car between classes and events - so to pass the time we have fun singing and signing along with our eclectic playlist!. After what seems like months of singing Christmas songs, we were back at work this week so whilst driving about we put together the signs for "Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.

History

We have been looking at modern toys compared to toys of the past. We took part in a workshop at the Hartlepool Museum.

Panda's work this week 20-24/1/2020

Panda Class has worked really hard this week. In Literacy we have tackled rhyming words and written our own simple poems, which are fabulous!

In Maths this week we have focused on doubling numbers. History has been all about old and new toys, we have looked at their differences and their similarities. Panda class are very lucky to have two visitors come in each week to work with us. First, was Mike and he teaches us music. This week we got to play the chime bars and work on rhythms and beats, singing our favourite tunes. Secondly was Joanna from the library service. This time we read stories all about Chinese New Year and  made some incredible, dragon masks.

Panda's work this week: 27-31/01/2020

Panda Class has had a very busy week. Following our theme of Old and New, in D.T we have looked at biscuits across the ages. This week we baked hobnobs! They were delicious.

We played the Ukulele in Music this week with Mike. We practised strumming to a beat.

In P.E we are learning about gymnastics, focusing this week on balancing with a partner.

Joanna from the library service visited and we listened to a dinosaur story and made some cool dinosaur hats!

Panda Class Assembly: 03/02/2020

This week Panda Class hosted the school assembly. We showed everyone what we have learned so far about Old and New toys. We had fun, guessing games and a quiz. Everybody had lots of fun!

Panda Class' visit to Preston Hall Museum-13/02/2020

This week Panda Class enjoyed a visit to Preston Hall Museum to look at the old toys they have, in keeping with our theme this term of Old and New. There was a large of variety of toys to see, some of which the children did not recognise at all!  Everyone had a lovely time and now appreciates the modern toys we have available today.

Panda Class' work this week-24-28/02/2020

This week Panda Class have really enjoyed our Science and Geography lessons. In Science the children have looked at and identified a variety of everyday materials including wood, plastic, glass, brick, paper and cardboard. In groups we walked around our classroom and the school, identifying what everything was made from.

In Geography we talked about and explored the human impact on the planet. As a class we went on a litter collection around the school grounds.

Panda Class Art- 03/03/2020

This week in Art we have focused on the works of Jill Townsley. In particular we have looked at the sculptures she has created using plastic spoons and rubber bands. We decided to try out her methods and create our own sculptures using those same materials.
