Welcome to Panda Class!

 

 

Our teacher is Louise Charlton.

Our teaching assistants are Rachel, Joanne and Abbie.

 

Panda class is a class of 10 children with a variety of learning difficulties, alongside associated speech, language and communication difficulties.

 

On our class page you will find information about what we are learning in class and the many exciting events that are coming up throughout the year. We will also use this page to share photographs and videos of your child's learning and any other special activities that occur within our class.

Tuesday 17th July 2018: Remote Control Cars - In ICT, we used remote control cars. Turning them left and right and moving forwards and backwards.

Tuesday 17th July 2018: Road Signs - We used the bikes on our very own road on the trim-trail, following the road signs as we go.

Tuesday 17th July 2018: ICT - We love going on Education City on the computers.

Monday 16th July 2018: Archery - We really enjoyed Archery with West View Project!

Thursday 12th July 2018: Road Signs - In ICT we have been learning about different road signs and signals that may stop traffic. We went for a walk in the local community to see what we could find!

Thursday 12th July 2018: PAT Dog - We had a visit from Maisie, the PAT Dog. She is lovely and very friendly!

Tuesday 10th July 2018: Where The Wild Things Are - We acted out this week's story. It was fabulous!

Friday 6th July 2018: Fancy Dress Fun Run - We had a great morning dressing up and doing a fun run to raise money for Abbey's Love charity.

Friday 6th July 2018: Shapes Around School - We went on a shape hunt around school. Then drew the shapes we found with chalk onto the yard.

Wednesday 4th July 2018: Monkey Puzzle Song! - Some children in Panda Class enjoyed learning a song about Monkey Puzzle and the sign to go along with it too!

Monday 2nd July 2018: Healthy Biscuits - Using Oats, Sultanas and Honey we made some delicious healthy biscuits.

Monday 2nd July 2018: BeeBots - Some children used BeeBots during an ICT lesson. Programming them to move around maps.

Friday 29th June 2018: Sports Day! - Panda Class had a great time during Sports Day 2018!

Thursday 28th June 2018: Positional Language - We also did some dancing including positional language. The Cha Cha Slide and Hokey Kokey.

Wednesday 27th June 2018: Positional Language - We went to the park for our Maths lesson. We have been learning all about positional language (in, on, next to and under etc).

Wednesday 25th June 2018: Healthy Eating - We tasted different ingredients and made our own healthy wraps!

Friday 22nd June 2018: Shapes at Summerhill - We went to Summerhill to look for different 2D and 3D shapes.

Wednesday 20th June 2018: Egyptian Day - Panda class did lots of great activities during Egyptian Day. We tried lots of different food, made different crafts, learned how to dance like and Egyptian and had a mummy wrapping competition. It was great fun!!!

Monday 18th June 2018: Frozen Yoghurt - After learning all about healthy eating, we made our own Frozen Yoghurt lollipops. They were made with fresh strawberries, fresh raspberries and dairy-free yoghurt.

Friday 15th June 2018: Stem Experiment - In Science, we added food colouring to water. We then put some flowers in, to see if the water would travel up the stem and change the flower's colour.

Friday 15th June 2018: Ladybird Cakes - We made ladybird cakes to go with our story this week.

Thursday 14th June 2018: Father's Day Cards - In Art, we made some FANTASTIC rocket style Father's Day Cards.

Wednesday 13th June 2018: O'Clock Bingo - In Maths, we have been learning about time. We played bingo, looking for different o'clock times.

Tuesday 12th June 2018: Re-telling the story - Some children used props to re-tell the story of 'The Bad-tempered Ladybird'.

Tuesday 12th June 2018: The Bad-tempered Ladybird - This week's story is 'The Bad-tempered Ladybird'. We had great fun acting out this story.

Thursday 7th June 2018: PAT Dog - Panda class loved meeting our new PAT Dog, Maisie. She was very friendly!

Thursday 7th June 2018: Baking - Panda class went to the cookery room and made some butterfly and dragonfly cakes and decorated them with different coloured icing.

Monday 4th June 2018: West View Project - We had a lovely day at Wynyard Forest with West View Project. We made nature pizzas, a bug house and enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the fire.

Friday 25th May 2018: Numicon - We explored the different numicon pieces and matched them to their correct number.

Friday 25th May 2018: BeeBots - In ICT, we enjoyed using the BeeBots, counting how many moves they had to make to get to different shops on the mat.

Monday 21st May 2018: Play-Doh Letters - In Phonics, some children made letters using play-doh!

Friday 18th May 2018: Dino Lego - Panda Class enjoyed their trip to Kirkleatham Museum to look at their Dino Lego exhibition.

Thursday 17th May 2018: Royal Wedding Garden Party - We had an amazing time celebrating the Royal Wedding with the whole school by having a picnic outside on the school yard.

Thursday 17th May 2018: Royal Wedding Cake - Panda Class made their own cake ready for the Royal Wedding. It looked beautiful!

Monday 14th May 2018: Weather Songs - In Music, we have been singing and signing along to songs all about the weather.

Thursday 10th May 2018: Little Red Hens - After reading the story 'The Little Red Hen' some children made their own Little Red Hens. They looked fantastic!

Thursday 11th May 2018: Halving - In Maths, we enjoyed finding out the halves of numbers. Brilliant work!

Wednesday 9th May 2018: Teesmouth - We had a wonderful day at Teesmouth. Looking for shells and rocks on the beach and we even found some crabs too!

Friday 4th May 2018: Tweddle Farm - We went on a trip to Tweddle Farm to look for Ducks, just like the ones from 'The Ugly Duckling' story. We found the ducks and lots of other animals too. It was very fun!

Thursday 3rd May 2018: Numbers in Sand - In maths we went looking for numbers in the sand, we then matched amounts of objects to the numbers we found. Fantastic work!

Thursday 3rd May 2018: The Ugly Duckling - We really enjoyed acting out this week's story!

Wednesday 2nd May 2018: Doubles - Using teddies to help, some children did some fantastic doubles work on Education City.

Wednesday 2nd May 2018: Jam Tarts - We have been learning all about the Queen and the Royal Family in history, we sand the 'Queen of Hearts' rhyme and then made some delicious Jam Tarts.

Tuesday 1st May 2018: Doubles - Using teddies, we did some amazing work in maths on doubles.

Monday 30th April 2018: Monet Painting - In Art, we made a backdrop for our water lilies to go onto, for a wonderful display in class.

Friday 27th April 2018: Ward Jackson Park and Morrisons - After learning about flowers and plants in science, panda Class went to Ward Jackson Park to look for all different kinds of flowers and plants. We then went to Morrisons to look at how they are wrapped in bouquets, so we could make some for our role-play Florists in class.

Thursday 26th April 2018: One More and One Less - Some children did a wonderful job at working our some one more and one less sums.

Wednesday 25th April 2018: Jack and the Beanstalk Song - Some of the children in Panda Class had fun learning a song about the Jack and the Beanstalk story, they even signed along too. WONDERFUL!

Monday 23rd April 2018: Planting Sunflowers - In science, we learnt about different parts of a plant. We then planted our very own sunflowers.

Monday 23rd April 2018: Monet - In Art, we have been learning about Monet. We made some beautiful water lilies.

Friday 20th April 2018: Saltholme - We went on a class trip to Saltholme nature reserve, to look for different types of plants and flowers. We also made the most of the play area!

Thursday 19th April 2018: Fruit Kebabs - After learning all about healthy eating in PSHE, we tried some different fruits and made some tasty fruit kebabs.

Wednesday 18th April 2018: Three Billy Goats Gruff - We had so much fun acting out this story on the trim-trail.

Wednesday 18th April 2018: Fudge - Using Goat's milk and some other ingredients, we made some delicious chocolate fudge.

Tuesday 17th April 2018: Ordering a Story - After listening to 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' again, some children worked hard re-telling the story and making sure it was all in the right order.

Monday 16th April 2018: Three Billy Goats Gruff Song - We enjoyed listening to some of the children performing a song to go with our story.

Thursday 29th March 2018: Easter Egg Hunt - We had an amazing afternoon, taking part in an Easter egg hunt! It was GREAT fun!

Wednesday 28th March 2018: Tux Paint - Using ICT, we made some wonderful Easter egg pictures.

Tuesday 27th March 2018: Local Area - Our topic this term has been 'Journeys'. We went out for a little trip to see what was in the local area and what we may pass on our journey to and from school.

Monday 26th March 2018: Easter Baking - We made some chocolate nests in cookery, they were very tasty!

Wednesday 21st March 2018: Senses - In Science, we have been learning all about our senses. Some children in panda class went on a sensory hunt around school.

Wednesday 21st March 2018: Capacity - We have been doing some amazing work in maths, measuring how much water different containers can hold.

Monday 19th March 2018: Hot Cross Buns - In R.E. we have been learning about the Easter Story. We learnt about different Easter traditions and we made Hot Cross Buns.

Thursday 15th March 2018: Boat Pictures - After reading the story Mr Gumpy's Outing, Olivia and Kyle made their own boat pictures.

Wednesday 14th March 2018: Pi Day - Panda Class had an amazing time celebrating pi day. We went to Lidl to look for pies and then brought them back to school to cook and taste. We also played the pi song on an online piano and played a game, using a dice to make pi (3.142). It was a VERY fun day!!!

Friday 9th March 2018: Wonderful Award - Olivia won the school wonderful award this week. Well done Olivia!!!

Friday 9th March 2018: Shildon Railway Museum - As we have been leaving all about transport/journeys, we went to Shildon Railway Museum to look at different trains from the past and present.

Monday 5th March 2018: Making Caterpillars - We enjoyed making our own pom-pom Caterpillars like the one from the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

Monday 26th February 2018: Trains - In Art, we made our very own trains. They looked amazing!

Friday 23rd February 2018: Train Journey to Newcastle - Panda Class enjoyed a trip to Newcastle on the train. While we were there we visited China Town and went to a Chinese Buffet Restaurant, after learning all about Chinese New Year!

Thursday 22nd February 2018: The Train Ride - In Literacy, some children were sequencing the story 'The Train Ride'. Well done!

Tuesday 20th February 2018: Chinese New Year - We did lots of fun activities for Chinese New Year, we even tried a traditional Chinese dessert which was so tasty. It was Warm Bananas in Coconut Milk.

Monday 19th February 2018: Wedding - After learning about different weddings in R.E., we had our very own wedding in class.

Wednesday 7th February 2018: E-Safety - We have been learning all about how to be safe when using electric devices, especially when on the internet.

Monday 5th February 2018: Valentine's Day Cards - In Art, we made some lovely cards for Valentine's Day!

Thursday 1st February 2018: Back to Earth with a Bump - After reading the story 'Back to Earth with a Bump', panda class did a wonderful job of acting out the whole story!

Wednesday 31st January 2018: Library Ladies - After reading some stories we did some crafts with the library ladies, we made clowns!

Tuesday 30th January 2018: Heavy and Light - In Maths, we used scales to work out which objects were heavier/lighter than others.

Tuesday 30th January 2018: Back to Earth with a Bump - In Literacy , we did a great job at remembering the order of the story 'Back to Earth with a Bump'.

Friday 26th January 2018: Larry's Lanes - After learning all about number bonds to 10, in Maths, we went on a trip to Larry's Lanes to go bowling. Working out how many skittles we needed to knock down! It was great fun!

Thursday 25th January 2018: Space Assembly - We had great fun acting out the story 'Whatever Next' and showing off our work during our class assembly.

Thursday 25th January 2018: Number Bonds to 10 - In Maths, we used cubes to help us with our number bonds to 10.

Wednesday 24th January 2018: Space Biscuits - In Cookery, we made biscuits in lots of different shapes (rocket, alien, flying saucer and astronaut). We decorated them with writing icing. they were very tasty!

Tuesday 23rd January 2018: Adding - We used a number line in Maths, to help us with our sums. Getting the rocket sums to their correct planet.

Monday 22nd January 2018: Flying Saucers - In Art, we made flying saucers out of paper bowls, paper cups, bowls and tin foil. We painted them bright colours and added sequins. They look fantastic!

Thursday 18th January 2018: 3D Aliens - After learning about different 3D shapes, we made some aliens using the 3D shape nets. We could guess what they were going to be by looking at other 3D shapes.

Wednesday 17th January 2018: Shape Aliens - In Maths, we made some aliens out of different 2D shapes.

Thursday 18th January 2018: PE - In PE, we have been practicing balancing. We had a range of different stations to go to do our exercises.

Wednesday 17th January 2018: Library Ladies - Each Wednesday, some ladies form the library come into Springwell to read stories to our children. This week in Panda Class, we read different stories about rockets and space to fit with out topic. We looked at different props to go with the stories and made some rocket pictures.

Wednesday 17th January 2018: Neil Armstrong - In history, we have been learning about Neil Armstrong. We tried food that he would've had on his journey to the moon, and learnt some interesting facts about him. He was the first man to step food on the moon and his footprint is still on the moon.

Monday 15th January 2018: Space Pictures - In art, Panda Class used ink in water to create their very own planets. We then used white paint and toothbrushes to flick the paint onto the black card to look like stars.

Friday 12th January 2018: Locomotion (Shildon Railway Museum) - Panda Class went on a trip to Shildon Railway Museum to look at the Tim Peake space exhibition.

Thursday 11th January 2018: Rockets - In art, Panda Class made rockets, using cardboard tubes, paint and tissue paper.

Wednesday 10th January 2018: One more - Olivia and Sophie did some fantastic work in maths, finding one more using a number line!

Tuesday 9th January 2018: Space Pictures - After learning all about the different planets in science, some children in Panda Class made their own space pictures.

Friday 22nd December 2017: Christmas Dinner - We had a lovely time having our Christmas dinner with the whole school!

Thursday 21st December 2017: Christmas Party - Panda Class had an amazing time at their school Christmas party, playing games, dancing and eating yummy party food!

Wednesday 20th December 2017: Sorting Healthy and Unhealthy Foods - Using ICT, we sorted foods into what is healthy and what is unhealthy!

Wednesday 20th December 2017: Taking Temperatures - Using a thermometer, we took our temperatures before and after exercise! Exercise makes our hearts beat faster and makes us warmer.

Tuesday 19th December 2017: Waterproof Materials - Panda Class did a little experiment to see which materials were waterproof.

Friday 15th December 2017: Banana the Elf! - After lunch, Panda Class came back to find Banana in the outdoor area having a tea party with all the dollies. He left candy canes for all the children!

Thursday 14th December 2017: Space 2 Learn - Panda Class went to Space 2 Learn and took part in different Christmas activities. We especially enjoyed making Snowman Biscuits.

Wednesday 13th December 2017: Nativity! - Panda Class enjoyed taking part in the school Nativity!

Friday 8th December 2017: National Glass Centre - After learning about different materials in Science, Panda Class went on a trip to Sunderland to visit the National Glass Centre. We watched different demonstrations on how glass is made and also how they make Christmas Decorations.

Wednesday 6th December 2017: Pantomime - Panda Class enjoyed the 'Puss in Boots' Pantomime that came into school.

Tuesday 5th December 2017: Wooden Christmas Decorations - Continuing learning about wooden objects, we decorated wooden Christmas decorations. They looked beautiful!

Monday 4th December 2017: Wood - In Science we have been learning about materials. We went around school looking for different things that are made from wood.

Friday 1st December 2017: Christingles - In R.E. we have been learning all about advent and how Christians celebrate on the build up to Christmas. We made our very own Christingles.

Thursday 30th November 2017: SNOW! - We had lots of fun playing in the snow!

Friday 10th November 2017: Toys R Us - Panda Class went to Toys R Us to get some catalogs to help us write our Christmas lists for Santa! We also used the catalogs for our role play toy shop in class.

Thursday 9th November 2017: Subtraction - Continuing our Maths this week, more children doing some fantastic work using number lines to work out the answers to sums on Education City!

Wednesday 8th November 2017: Materials - In Science, we have been learning all about materials. Panda Class sorted different objects into the correct category.
