SPARKLE CURRICULUM

 

The children in Zebra class follow the 'SPARKLE CURRICULUM' which is delivered in a multi-sensory, creative way which enables pupils to access learning using their senses.

 

The SPARKLE CURRICULUM is:

· MOTIVATING Our pupils learn when they are interested, stimulated and engaged.

· RELEVANT It is relevant to the learning styles of the pupils and takes into account their prior knowledge and learning needs.

· CHALLENGING All teaching staff have high and realistic expectations of the pupils and with specialised, inclusive teaching — progress is evident.

· FOCUSED Shared targets from EHCP, Physiotherapists, OT, SALT etc. are central to the pupils provision.

 

 

IMPORTANT DATES

     Zebra class have swimming every Monday and Rebound Therapy every Thursday.

Autumn Term Topic Web - I am A Hero

A magical trip to Imagination Village.

Today we visited Imagination village, the children loved it. They all explored the different role play areas and was surprised by a special guest. 

Kosmic Kingdom.

The children and staff all enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at kosmic kingdom. We explored the soft play and enjoyed playing alongside our friends in lion and pangolin class too. 

Shapes. 
This week we have been looking at different shapes, the children have have enjoyed some singing and sorting activities on the interactive whiteboard. We have also enjoyed getting messy and printing with different shapes and paint. 

Children in need.

For children in need we came in non uniform and enjoyed making crafts. 

Little Red Riding Hood sensory story

 

Today we enjoyed a sensory story. We used different props and food and enjoyed exploring these through smell, touch, sound and taste.

We had lots of fun with this story!

Story time. 
Zebra class enjoyed a visit from the library lady today. She read us a sensory story and all of the children took turns to explore each of the props. We also made a craft linked to the story. The children loved it!

Anti bullying week - Playing together. 
Our weekly assembly takes place on a Wednesday. Today we took our assembly outside to play and communicate with other classes. This was to support anti-bullying week. The children loved all the different sensory activities on the yard and mixing with other classes. 

Museum 

Today the children have loved our trip to the museum. We explored the pirate ship, play areas and even dressed up as pirates! 

Red Riding Hood

Zebra Class have loved learning about Little Red Riding Hood and exploring the resources in class. We enjoyed going to Lidl to look for red foods and objects. We loved taking part in lots of red sensory activities such as exploring paint with our hands!

Fireworks

This week the children have loved learning about Bonfire night.  They have developed their fine motor skills by mark making in the sparkly sand and colouring and painting with brushes and cotton buds.  They also loved watching the fireworks in the light and sound room.  

Halloween

We loved taking part in lots of different Halloween activities. We used our senses to explore the pumpkin and jelly. 

 

 

 

Rebound Therapy.

Once a week the children enjoy their rebound therapy session. Every child loves their time on the trampoline. Each week we will do something different, such as listening to music, sensory bouncing with mood lighting, singing, communication and following instructions. 

Tweddle farm.

Today we have enjoyed a trip to Tweddle farm. We explored the farm, looked at all the animals and some of us held the bunnies. The children played on the jumping pillows and play areas, they had lots of fun! 

Autumn colours.
This week we have been learning about some autumn colours, we have been concentrating on a colour a day (Red, Yellow, Orange and Brown) and completing some fun activities. 

A trip to Summerhill.
The children in Zebra class have enjoyed a trip to Summerhill park today, they explored all the different equipment and enjoyed a little autumn walk.

Library sensory story

Today we had the lovely library visiting to read us a sensory story, ‘Emily’s Birthday.’

We loved sitting around and also making some Supertato characters. Don’t they look fantastic?

 

Design and Technology

We love visiting the cookery room. We made Autumn biscuits, using leaf cutters and choosing colours to decorate them with. 
We have had lots of fun and were fantastic at sitting and taking turns. 

Autumn salt dough

We love exploring and being creative with ingredients. We used flour, salt, spice, food colouring and water to make our own special seasonal sensory dough. We even used leaves and pine cones to see what effect it would have. We had lots of fun.

Class displays

We love our class displays showing all of the work we’ve been doing. We have been learning about Autumn as well as the rhyme ‘Five little speckled frogs’ and the story, ‘ Supertato.’

Autumn walk. 
Today we have enjoyed a trip to Ward Jackson park for an Autumn walk. We found lots of leaves, conkers, pine cones and other signs of Autumn. Afterwards we enjoyed playing in the park together. 

Exploring our outside areas.

The children in Zebra class have been enjoying exploring the outside play areas around school. They have all enjoyed the swings, slides, climbing frames and having a run on our large field area. 

Autumn arts and crafts.

This week we are concentrating on some Autumn activities. We have enjoyed some fine motor skills activities, matching coloured beads and objects to the picture. We have also enjoyed making Autumnal sensory pictures with different coloured paints, using our gross motor skills. 

Supertato crafts

We enjoyed listening to the story 'Supertato' again this week.  We decorated our own superhero masks and we made our very own 'Supertato' using a potato, lolly sticks, pipe cleaners, felt and ribbon which helped to develop our fine motor skills. 

A trip to Headland park. 
Today we went out on the bus for a walk around the Headland and had a little trip to the park too. We met another class there and the children played happily and explored the different climbing frames, swings and slides. 

Art - Potato printing.

This week in Zebra class we have been reading 'Supertato'. The children enjoyed making their own pictures using potatoes, choosing different colours and taking turns.

A trip to Seaton park 

Today we visited Seaton park, we had a great time exploring the swings, slides and climbing frames. The children were very happy and enjoyed themselves.

Making cakes. 
The children in zebra class have enjoyed making cakes in their first week. The children got to explore all the ingredients and help mix everything together. When the cakes cooled down, each child enjoyed decorating their cake with different coloured icing pens and some of the children enjoyed eating them too. Yum yum!

Swimming

 

Today we visited our Hydro-pool for the first time this term. As you can see, we all loved it. We were all over-joyed at how confident our Zebras are in the water. 

5 Little speckled frogs. 
Its been a great first week in zebra class. We have enjoyed the nursery ryhme 5 little speckled frogs. We have listened to the song and completed some craft frog masks too.
