Special visit
We were so lucky this afternoon to have a special visitor come to see us... SANTA CLAUS! We were very excited as Santa gave each of us an early Christmas present.

Christmas Lunch
We had a special lunch time today as we celebrated Christmas with our school family over a delicious Christmas dinner.
Tuesday 17th December
Christmas Party
We had such a wonderful time at our Christmas party today. We listened to the music, danced with our friends from other classes and played 'pass the parcel'. We loved watching the disco lights and listening to the DJ on his microphone.
Monday 16th December
Sensory Mark Making
Today we made reindeer dust. We explored the porridge oats with our hands and feet and chose which coloured glitter we wanted to add.
Wednesday 11th December
Polar Express Sensory session
Today, Lions came to school in their pyjamas ready for a day full of sensory activities linked to the Polar Express. We watched some clips from the film, smelled and tasted hot chocolate and listened to the jingle bells. We attempted to hold and shake the bells with support and used our vocalisations and movements to communicate how we felt about the stimuli we were presented with.
Monday 9th December
Hartfields Christmas Sing-a-long
We had a wonderful morning singing Christmas songs and engaging with the residents of Hartfields Retirement Village. Everybody was in the festive spirit and the children were given a special little gift from the residents who love seeing the children during our visits.
Friday 6th December
Christmas Activity Day
We had such fun taking part in lots of sensory activities in the hall this morning. We dipped our toes in icy cold water, threw snowballs, created our own sensory music bottle and explored the porridge oats reindeer food!
Christmas Jumper Day
Christmas is well under way in Lion Class, with lots of festive fun and activities happening! Don't we look smart in our Christmas jumpers?!
Friday 6th December
Christmas Cookery
In preparation for our trip to the residential home next week, we baked some shortbread in cookery today. We explored, mixed, used switches and worked together to follow the recipe. We hope they will be a big hit with the residents!

Hydrotherapy
We love our hydrotherapy sessions in Lion Class. We have been working on our own individual communication targets and continue to develop our confidence within the water. We love to splash around!
Monday 25th November
Understanding the World
We had a brilliant time this morning, taking part in a toy workshop at the museum. We were very lucky to have the place to ourselves and we explored lots of toys from the past. We particularly loved the wind up car and spinning top.
Thursday 21st November
RE - Diwali
In class, we learnt all about Diwali; the Hindu festival of lights. We used our senses to explore a range of items linked to the celebration and created our own Rangoli patterns.

Springwell Spa
We had so much fun dipping our toes into the foot spa today. We anticipated our feet being placed into the water and once we realised it was lovely and warm, initiated 'more' by kicking and moving our feet.

Understanding the World
We had lots of fun on our bus trip to The Range and Home Bargains to explore the Christmas decorations and lights. We felt the fluffy snowmen, watched the flashing lights and listened to the musical ornaments.

We had lots of fun this morning mark making in a range of different sensory materials.

Sensory
This morning we enjoyed a sensory outdoor assembly with other classes in Team Africa. We loved the parachute games and bubbles!
Monday 11th November
Understanding the World
We paid our respects to the fallen soldiers as we attended the Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph this morning. We listened to the sound of the bugle and watched as the flags were held by the servicemen.
Wednesday 7th November
Some residents of Hartfields retirement village very kindly gifted Halloween goody bags to the children in Lion class. We are very lucky!

Understanding the World / Expressive Arts and Design
To celebrate Bonfire night, we watched videos of fireworks and listened to the sounds they make. We then made our own bright firework prints.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Today we came to school wearing costumes to celebrate Halloween. We had a great day!

Literacy
We were so lucky to have Liz Million, the Author and Illustrator in our class today. We explored some teddy bears and watched in amazement as Liz drew a wonderful picture of a lion. We were very impressed and inspired!

Lion Class enjoyed a Trip to Asda. We explored lots of different multi-sensory Halloween decorations.
Thursday 10th October
Design and Technology
Today Lion Class had a blast in our cookery session - exploring the feel and smell of the ingredients and using a switch to operate the whisk. We then created our own spooky designs, working hard to squeeze the icing out of the tube and onto the cakes!

Communication and Interaction
We thoroughly enjoyed a sensory massage session today. These relaxing sessions provide an amazing opportunity for children and adults to communicate on a 1-1 basis. The music and chilled environment enhance the wonderful experience and allow the children to engage in their learning and interact with a familiar adult in a positive and relaxing way.

Physical Development
This week we have been working on our physical development targets in the Hydrotherapy pool. We explored, kicked, splashed, reached for objects and floated around whilst having lots of fun!

Understanding the World
Lion Class enjoyed a walk to the local retirement home where the residents love to see the children just as much as the children love to see the residents! Being out in the community and interacting with the public is important for the children to develop social and interaction skills and our visits always put a big smile on everyone's faces!

As part of our sensory story 'Just Like Jasper' we crafted our very own cats; exploring the texture of the paint, pipe cleaners, felt and paper plates.
Friday 13th September
Music
We had a very special music session with Ashleigh from the Amber Trust. We explored a range of musical instruments, listened intently to the songs and had a dance with the coloured scarves!

Cookery
We explored the ingredients, made and then decorated our very own gingerbread men today! Don't they look delicious?!
