Autumn 2024 - Entertain Me

Christmas Activities - W/B 2.12.24

We started to celebrate Christmas in Dragon Class this week. We enjoyed a Christmas themed activity time in the hall - we walked through icy water, played in the snow storm, made a special bauble, a snow shaker, designed a Christmas jumper and played a couple of games.

We also had the honour of being chosen as the class to decorate our Christmas tree at St Hilda's Church on the Headland. Each class had made a decoration based around the theme of peace and we took the decorations to the church and placed them on the tree. We don't want to appear biased but we think our tree was the best decorated.

What a lovely assembly today, Dragon class enjoyed sharing what they have been learning about in History and Geography about Seaside holidays and places they enjoy visiting.

W/B: 18/11/24 Music. The children listened to a pirate story and explored the beat of the music using clapping and instruments. What lovely music we made!!!

W/B 11.11.24 - Understanding the World, People Culture and Communities.

We have started to look at the Jewish festival of Yom Kippur - we have learnt that this is a special time of the year for Jewish people; a chance to reflect, ask for forgiveness and start a fresh for the new year. We showed that we can say sorry by making the Makaton sign.

23.10.23 Science- Making an umbrella for Teddy. The children have been exploring different materials to make an umbrella for Teddy. The children investigated which materials were waterproof and which were not.

W/B 14.10.24 - Language and Literacy

Over the last couple of weeks we have thoroughly enjoyed the Julia Donaldson classic Zog. We have explored the story, we can name the characters, remember the order of the big events and some of us can write in relation to the text. We really enjoyed pretending to be the characters and role-playing the story.

Geography- Places We Enjoy.

Today we visited Ward Jackson Park as part of our Geography work on places we enjoy. The children enjoyed a lovely woodland walk, exploring the sculptures, seeing the ducks, swans and geese and of course the playground.

W/B 07.10.24 - Art (Print)

The children have been looking at the work of Orla Kierly who uses repeated patterns and colours in her designs. The children used Duplo to create their own print patterns using different colours.

Computing

The children have been learning about pixels in ICT. The children decoded simple images by colouring pixels.

Science- Materials.

The children have been investigating different materials and their different uses. Today we explored washing clothes and discussed what would be best to use to wash the clothes and how we could dry them. The children loved washing the dolls clothes and hanging them up to dry.

Geography - Places We Enjoy

This week we visited the beach as part of our Geography topic work. The children loved playing on the sand and building sandcastles. We loved having an ice cream!!!!

W/B 30.9.24 - Understanding the World (Geography)

Dragon Class enjoyed a visit to Bishop Cuthbert Park today as part of our Geography topic- Places We Enjoy. The children all enjoyed the different play equipment in the park.

W/B 23.9.24 - Maths

Over the last couple of weeks we have been looking at sorting in different ways, deciding our own criteria, looking at groups and deciding which group has more and fewer objects and sometimes recognising when the groups have the same.

W/B 16.9.24 - PE (Sequencing Movement)

This term we are moving our bodies to a range of well known traditional rhymes such as The Wheels on the Bus and Polly Put the Kettle On. We are then using these movements in other dance styles such as ballet and rock and roll. We are getting better and better at remembering the sequence of movements and trying to move our bodies in different ways and at different tempos.

Rossmere School Forest School - Extol Teams Day

Some of the Dragons visited Rossmere School to explore their Forest School as part of a whole academy trust event. They played various games such as  Capture the Flag, Tug of War and Splat. They also thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit cooking of marshmallows and jacket potatoes for lunch. They had the loveliest day!

W/B 9.9.24 - PHSE (All About Me)

This week we have started our new unit of All About Me and we received a letter from Jigsaw Jenie - she shared with us that she will join our class shortly but in the meantime she shared with us her favourite toys. We looked at the toys Jenie likes and agreed that she likes the same sort of things as we do! We are going to get along well. We spent some time playing together with some of our favourite toys.

W/B: 02/09/24 - Welcome Back!

The dragons have settled back into Springwell life well - we took some time out on Friday for a bit of bonding fun in soft play.
