18.01.21

Hello my lovely Lion Class!

This week, you will be staying at home with your parents and carers. I have added a variety of different teaching and learning activities in this section for you to complete at home every day. I hope you enjoy them! It would be great if your parents/carers could email me some photos of you completing these tasks. Please keep all your completed work and bring it into school with you when you next return.

I will ring you sometime this week on my mobile to see how you are getting on.

Take care and stay safe!

Thanks Jane smiley

Shake your sillies out!

Each day, before you begin your remote learning, listen to this fun song called: ‘Shake your sillies out!’ Have a little dance with your child and encourage them to move their arms/hands and legs.

The Gruffalo - Read by Alan Mandel

Play this animated story of 'The Gruffalo' to your child and draw their attention to each character by pointing and naming each animal. Does your child look at each character closely?

Identifying Characters

In your child's remote learning pack this week - there are some pictures of the characters. Show your child these characters one by one – naming each one in turn. Encourage your child to repeat the character's name. Encourage your child to make the sound of each animal e.g. mouse - squeak, snake - hiss, owl - hooting, Gruffalo - growling etc.

From a choice of two characters – Can your child find a specific character using their eyes?

E.g. Can you find the Gruffalo?

Can you find the snake?

Can you find the mouse?

Can you find the fox?

Can you find the owl?

Can you find the forest?

Sensory Cooking

Can you make some Gruffalo cupcakes?

Ingredients:

8oz of self raising flour

8oz soft butter

8oz of caster sugar
4 tablespoons of cocoa powder (optional)
50g (2oz) plain chocolate, melted

4 large eggs

Method:

1. Put all the ingredients, apart from the melted chocolate, into a large bowl & beat until smooth (we used an electric hand whisk). Beat in the melted chocolate.
2. Add the mixture to paper cases (we filled ours three-quarters full)

3. Bake in the oven at 180˚c for 15mins (until springy to touch)

4. Allow to cool on a wire rack

To make the cupcake topping we used:

2oz cocoa powder

8oz icing sugar / confectioners sugar

8oz of unsalted butter (softened)

Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 tablespoon of Milk (if necessary)

Packet of Jelly Tots (any small round jelly sweet are ideal)

Packet of chocolate buttons

Packet of mini marshmallows

Dark chocolate coloured icing pens

For the chocolate Gruffalo frosting, beat the butter until soft, then added the icing sugar, cocoa powder & vanilla extract & beat until fluffy. If the mixture is too stiff, add a little of the milk. Spread the frosting onto the cupcakes, & used a fork to create a rough looking texture.

Relaxation - Mindful Hand Massage

Give your child a hand and wrist massage. Mindful hand and wrist massages allow our children to relax their muscles, calm their breathing, improve their mood, reduces pain, stress, anxiety and tension by way of a natural reflex.

Before you begin:

•Set the mood by lowering the lights and putting on some relaxing music.
•Support your child to sit up straight and encourage them to take three deep mindful breaths in and to breathe out slowly. Ask your child to relax.
•If you would like to use some hand cream or oil on your child’s hand you can.

Hand & Wrist Massage:

•Rub cream/oil all over their entire hand and wrist area in slow, gentle strokes.
•Use your thumb to rub small, gentle circles around their wrist.
•Continue to use your thumb to rub small circles between bones on the tops of their hands. Follow the natural lines along the hand towards the fingers.
•Take each finger in turn and use the thumb to rub in the same circular motion along each finger from base at palm to fingertip.
•Pull each finger softly by the fingertip.
•Clasp hands together, entwining hands (like in prayer) and move hands and wrists back and forth, left to right and in soft circular motions.
•Turn the hand over and use the same small, gentle circular motions of the thumb to rub the palm of the hand starting at the thumb base and then working your way up the palm to the top near the fingers.
•Repeat on other hand.
•Complete the massage by giving their hand one more rub down like you did in the beginning.
•Lay your child’s hands in their lap and encourage them to take three more deep breaths.

Kids Exercise songs: JIGGLE YOUR SCARF

Now that your child's wrists and hands are nice and relaxed, encourage them to reach out and hold onto a scarf or a sock. Play this song and support your child to hold onto the scarf/sock and jiggle it about! We do this activity in class, so your child will be familiar with this song and activity.
