Dragon Class is a KS2 class with 14 children. The teacher is Nicola who is supported by Shelby, Jo and Chloe. The HLTA is Kelly. 

Topic Web - World and Explorers - Summer 2023

This topic the term is stories. We are going to be enjoying lots of different stories.

We had a lovely morning at Larry's Lanes to celebrate our leavers! We all had lots of fun!!

Share a story!! We enjoyed a lovely afternoon of reading activities. We read the book 'You must bring a hat' and we made some lovely crowns for our party. We enjoyed some sweet treats.

The amazing true story behind The Boy Who Sailed the World!

Julia Green's beautiful picture book, The Boy Who Sailed the World, is about a little boy who has a BIG adventure. Here Julia talks to her son, Jesse, about his incredible experience sailing around the world, which inspired Julia's book.

We enjoyed doing our class assembly. It was based on the story we had been reading in our literacy lessons, The boy who sailed the world. The story is based on a true story about a boy who built a boat and sailed the world. We wrote our own dream journeys and shared them with everyone. We also showed our amazing ships that we drew in art.

Pirate Day!! We enjoyed dressing up as pirates, playing pirate games the water cannonball fight was the best and a treasure hunt. We found all the treasure!!!

Change of plan from rock climbing to den building due to the weather. We loved our adventure in Cod Beck forest. We worked in teams to build dens, walked across ropes, searched for food we could eat and practiced our archery skills!!

We had a fantastic time on our residential to Holy Island. We visited lots of different places such as Adventure Valley, Alnwick Castle, Seahouses, Ford and Etal Railway, Coldingham Bay and Northumberlandia. We really enjoyed a boat trip to the Farne Islands we saw lots of puffins and seals.

In PSHE we have been looking and learning about road safety. Justin and Emma came into Dragon Class to show us how to stay safe when crossing a road.

We enjoyed a visit to Saltholme to find and observe birds for our science topic. We saw lots of different species of birds and used pictures to find their names.

As part of No Pens Thursday, Cheryl our Speech and Language teaching assistant created a sensory activity. The children were blindfolded and had to put their hands in the mystery boxes. They were very brave and guessed what was in each box. Well done Dragons!!

Our science topic this term is all about animals. To start the topic we had a special visit from Dawn and her animals friends. It was amazing!!

We had a special visit from Northern Ballet. We told the story of The Ugly Duckling through dance. We explored different types of ballet shoes and looked at pictures of the performances The Ugly Ducking and Swan Lake..

Dragon Class enjoyed a Easter Egg Hunt!! Happy Easter Everyone!!!

As part of DT we had to plan our own picnic. We went to the shop, made invitations and made our own sandwiches. We really enjoyed our picnic with our teddies.

In science we used the equipment to make a circuit to make a bulb light up.

We had a lovely nativity service in St Hildas church this morning.

We enjoyed taking part in our Christmas play. We sang, danced and signed the song It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

8 of the Dragons went to a dodgeball competition. We worked together as a team!! Well done Dragons!!!!!!!!

We enjoyed a special Christmas trip ice skating at Billingham Forum!! We are all super skaters especially Nicola :)

Children In Need Day 2022

We enjoyed a visit to the cinema. We watched Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is was amazing!!!

This week we have been doing lots of work around Remembrance Day. In English we read the story Where the poppies now grow. We sequenced the story and wrote our own sentences. In art we made poppy wreaths and silhouette pictures. To show our respects we took part in a minute silence. We Will Remember.

This term our DT topic is puppets. We have been learning how to join materials together. We made our own puppets using sewing techniques.

We had a special visit from Tees River Trust. We explored river habitats and learnt all about oysters. Springwell School have sponsored an oyster hoist in the River Tees and are following the progress and impact the introduction of the oysters has on the river and the oyster population.

We had an exciting morning at Mary Lambert making bread for our RE topic all about Harvest. Thank you for such a wonderful morning!! Our bread was delicious!!

In our Science lessons we have been learning about First Aid. We talked about what we need to do if someone is hurt and how to apply a plaster to our teddies.

We have been working really hard in art to produce our own version of Henri Rousseau's painting - Tiger In A Tropical Storm (Surprise). We followed step by step instructions to draw our tiger and leaves. Once the drawing was ready we used water colour paints to paint and brighten up our amazing work.
