Hello my lovely Lion Class!

For the rest of this week, you will be staying at home with your parents and carers. This week we are going to read a new story called: 'Whatever Next!'. I have added a variety of different teaching and learning activities related to this story in this section for you to complete over the next few days. Hope you enjoy them!

It would be great if your parents/carers could email me some photos of you completing these tasks.

Shake your sillies out!!!

Each day, before you begin your remote learning, listen to this fun song called: ‘Shake your sillies out!’ Have a little dance with your child and encourage them to move their arms/hands and legs.

Let your child listen to this story called: 'Whatever Next!' by Jill Murphy.

Look closely at the characters in the story. Show your child each picture in turn. Name each character and encourage your child to repeat their name. You could play a game where you hide the character picture cards (or if you have a big teddy, a small teddy and a toy owl hide those) and encourage your child to look for them.

Read your child their story in the reading pack we sent before half term. If your child wasn't in school - choose a story that you have at home to read to your child.

Morning Lions,

Hope your all feeling happy today. I want you to listen to the story: ' Whatever Next'. Then sing the mathematical song below called: 'Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer'. Please use the resources provided e.g. aliens and numbers. 

Spend some time looking closely at the numbers 0-5. Support the children to create rainbow numbers using a variety of colours.

This afternoon, I would like you to participate in a sensory cooking lesson. If you have not got all the ingredients to make the star shaped biscuits, choose another interesting recipe. Don't forget to take some photos, I will look forward in seeing them.

Maths - Let your child watch this number rhyme called 'Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer'. How do they respond?

Cut out these pictures and use them to act out the song: ‘Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer’.

Number Recognition: Show your child each number in turn and name the number. Mix the numbers up and together put them in order. Sing 'Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer' again using these numbers (0-5) in the file below. Support your child to count different amounts of aliens and show them the corresponding number to match. Can your child identify the numbers?

RAINBOW NUMBERS: Using the large tracing number worksheets, support your child to trace each number with a colour of their choice. Then support them to trace the number again with a different colour. Continue this with different colours until the numbers look like a rainbow, like show in the picture below.

Sensory Cooking: Can you make some star shaped biscuits? If you do not have all the ingredients, select another recipe to make together. Support your child to explore all the different ingredients using their senses. How do they respond?

Look at the main objects in the story. Show your child these picture cards and name each one in turn. Can you find these objects in the story?

Open this PowerPoint by clicking the file below and sing the song 'Flying to the Moon' to your child.

Sing this nursery rhyme to your child. Encourage them to look at the moon and join in singing the song.

Click on the PowerPoint below and read your child the story: 'On the Moon'. Discuss how you would travel to space? e.g. in a rocket. What might you see in space? e.g. planets, stars, the sun etc. What does it feel like to be in space? e.g. no air, no water, no gravity etc. Why do you have to wear an space suit when you visit the moon? What does the moon look like? e.g. silent, empty, dusty, mountains, holes in the ground, no people, no animals, no plants, trees, no water etc.

Can you create your own sensory story using objects you have available in your home?

Put a colander on your child’s head (pretending it's their space helmet), put on their wellies/boots (pretending there space boots) and encourage them to pretend they are baby bear, visiting the moon. Can they make the sound of the rocket blasting up into space?

Let your child listen to this song about a man that lived in the moon.

Support your child to make a large moon using aluminium foil.

Physical Development

Please can you support your child to complete their individual physio programs.

Counting forwards from 1 to 10 and then count backwards from 10 to 0.

Maths - Click on the file below. Support your child to count all the different space objects and choose the correct answer. It is important that you point to each object as you count aloud. Does your child look at each object as you point and count them?

Support your child to make a telescope.

EXTENSION: Support your child to identify the different 2D shapes e.g. circle, square, rectangle, triangle etc. Cut the shapes out and help your child match the shapes on the different rocket designs.
