Autumn

WC 20th October

This week we have enjoyed learning about Diwali. We looked and smelled some Diwali food but most of us were reluctant to try it. We made some beautiful Diva lamps from salt dough and we painted and decorated them.

We listened to the story ‘We planted a pumpkin’ and we cut open a pumpkin and took turns to scoop out the middle. We painted pumpkins with Pom poms and listened to pumpkin and Halloween number rhymes. We counted pumpkins and found the number. 
We painted our feet and hands to do some Halloween crafts and we had a fun in our Halloween Attention Time session. We also played trick or treat. 

 

 

 

WC 13th October

We have continued our story ‘Wow! Said the Owl’ and learned some facts about owls. We made some our masks with paint and feathers and made some yummy Owl biscuits. We also listened to some Owl counting songs and joined in with the counting. 
We enjoyed an Autumn walk around Ward Jackson park. We looked at the different coloured plants and leaves and collected different shaped leaves, conkers and pine corns. We had fun playing in the park too. We looked at the different leaves when we got back to school and sorted them into colours and counted them and found the corresponding number. 
We ended our very busy week with a visit to Imagination Village. We enjoyed playing in the different areas and we developed our social skills and grooms and fine motor skills. 

 

WC 6th October

This week we have been listening to the story ‘Wow! said the Owl’. We explored the different props from the story and learned the Makaton signs for the colours. We painted flowers orange using corks and coloured a giant butterfly red with the spray paint. We also practised our fine motor skills by colouring butterflies red with pens and crayons.

In Maths we learned Owl counting rhymes and we sequenced the numbered owls from 1-10. 
Our colour of the week was green. We looked at different things that are green and painted with broccoli.

We enjoyed a visit to Elwick park.

WC 29th September

Toucan class have learned about the colour ‘orange’ this week and we mixed red and yellow to make our own orange Autumn leaves. We were interested in the orange props, especially the pumpkin. We also made some lovely Autumn trees by dipping corks into orange and yellow paint. 
We have continued listening to the Elmer story and we designed our own elephants for Elmer day We also made elephant shaped biscuits and a yummy elephant cake. 

WC 22nd September

This week Toucan class have enjoyed listening to the story ‘Elmer’. We dressed up as Elmer, explored props from the story, made masks and decorated Elmer with buttons. 
In Maths we enjoyed learning elephant counting songs and joining in with ‘Five little elephants standing on a wall’. 
This week was the beginning of Autumn so we went on a leaf hunt and made some lovely squirrel pictures with the leaves we found. We also printed with leaves and played some Autumn games on the interactive whiteboard. Our colour of the week was ‘yellow’ and we made some sunshine hand print pictures. 

WC 15th September

Toucan class have learned about the colour blue this week. We painted with blue paint, explored blue objects and decorated biscuits with blue icing. 
We have continued listening to ‘Bear sees Colours’ and we matched the bears to the different colours. 
In maths we enjoyed counting the different teddy bears, comparing the colours and learning bear counting songs. We also went on a bear hunt on the playground to look for the hidden bears. 
We loved our visit to Imagination Village which helped to develop our social skills. 

WC 8th September

Toucans have had a brilliant first full week back. 
In Literacy we have been listening to the story ‘Bear sees Colours’. We enjoyed exploring the props and tasting and smelling different foods from the story. We took turns to collage a big brown bear and we painted our own bears too. 
In Maths we have been learning different Number rhymes and taking turns with the props. We enjoyed playing the teddy bear number game on the Interactive whiteboard and had to feed bear a specific amount of cakes.

Our colour of the week was ‘Red’. We tasted different red food and printed with red apples and strawberries. 
We had lots of fun interacting with our friends at Elwick Park and also had fun playing outside.
