Jaguars

Welcome to Jaguar Class

 

 

 

Jaguar Class is an Autism Specific Class made up of 7 Key Stage 1 & 2 children.

The children follow an adapted curriculum appropriate to their individual needs. We follow some elements of the TEACCH approach at regular intervals throughout the day. 

Each day we participate in the 'Attention Autism' program.

 

Our weekly Swimming and PE sessions will be on Friday's. We will keep PE kits in school and send them home at the end of every half term, please send in swim kits each week.

10/4/2025 Easter Bunny Visit - We had a visit from the Springwell Easter bunnies who brought an easter egg for each of us.

8/4/2025 Celebrating Easter: We followed instructions to make easter bunny biscuits.

7/4/2025 Literacy (communication) : Following instructions to creat a flower print - After listening the the story 'Sunny Day', we explored some fresh flowers and then used the flowers to create a print by using a mallet to hammer on to the flowers to create a print onto the material.

3/4/2025 PSHRE: Self Help Skills and making choices - We practised getting undressed and then changing into our PE using as much independence as possible. We then went into the playground and chose different activities to explore.

3/4/2025 PSHRE: Pat Dog visit - We had a visit from Val and Ronnie the Pat dog. We explored and experienced stroking Ronnie then helping to brush his teeth.

1/4/2025 Geography: Weather (Sun) - We explored sunshine by using torches to create light, then we explored and experienced making shadows by shining the torches onto toy animals to create a shadow.

25/3/25 Speaking & Listening: Planting a sunflower - After exploring the story 'A Sunny Day', the children observed and experienced a sunflower seed being planted. The children then followed some simple instructions containing 2/3 keywords to plant their own sunflower seeds.

20/3/2025 Science: Ice Cream in a Bag - After previously visiting Seaton Carew to taste Ice Cream at the seaside, we explored and experienced making our own ice cream. We experienced following the instructions and adding the ingredients into the small bag and then adding ice and salt to the large bag and placing the small bag inside. We then took turns shaking the bag until the mixture froze.

18/3/25 RE: Islam - We recreated 'throwing stones at the Kabba' by throwing tennis balls at the foam pillars.

14/3/25 PE: During our PE session we have been working on developing our gross motor skills in particular jumping and balancing. We also incorporated some maths skills and explored and experienced being on, in and under. We also practised some PSHRE skills by waiting for our turns on the equipment.

14/2/2025 PE: During our PE session we have been working on developing our gross motor skills in particular jumping and balancing. We also incorporated some maths skills and explored and experienced being on, in and under. We also practised some PSHRE skills by waiting for our turns on the equipment.

13/2/2025 Science: Seaside and Oceans - We visited the Headland to explore the rockpools to see what we could find.

13/2/2025 Rebound: We take part in a rebound session each week and we focus on individual development around gross motor skills and communication skills.

12/2/2025 Geography: Wind Socks - We made our own wind socks and then explored and experienced using them in the wind from the wind machine.

11/2/2025 RE: Ramadan Lanterns - We explored some Ramadan celebrations and created our own lanterns.

11/2/2025 Maths - Counting activities

10/2/25 Safer Internet Day - We explored and experienced some online games and how to use them safely.

7/2/25 Number Day - We explored and experienced numbers in lots of different ways such as taking part in the number rhyme '7 Currant Buns' (and enjoyed eating a cake), exploring number rhymes in the pool, making playdough and creating our own number, creating numbers in shaving foam and exploring lots of different counting activities.

5/2/2025 Literacy Story: Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain - We listened to the story and used our PECS boards to find the correct symbols for characters and objects from the story.

5/2/2025 Geography: Wind - We explored some rhymes about wind and then experienced wind being blown on our bodies from the wind machine. We made our our fans from cardboard and used them to create our own wind and blow the feathers and paper in the tray. We also created pictures by blowing paint through a straw.

4/2/2025 Literacy: Creating storm pictures - We listen to and explored the story Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain and we then followed instructions from an adult to create pictures of a storm from the story.

3/2/2025 PSHRE: Relaxation - After a busy day of work we like to end the day with 5 minutes of relaxation on our own individual mats and listening to some calming and relaxing music.

29/1/2025 Science: Seaside and the Ocean - We visited the Headland and walk around and found the lighthouse.

28/1/2025 Science: Seaside and the Ocean - We explored sand and had fun making our own sandcastles.

24/1/2025 Reading: We enjoy selecting books and practising our reading skills and sharing a story with an adult.

21/1/2025 Geography: Weather (Rain) - We further explored 'rain' by creating rain in a jar, making rain in a bag and 'rain' spray pictures.

20/1/2025 Art - We explored and used natural materials previously found and collected from the beach such as shells, stones, seaweed and sticks, to create Andy Goldsworthy inspired pictures.

17/1/2025 PSHRE: Washing Hands - Each day we practise washing our hands several times a day mainly before we eat such as snack and lunch times, before taking part in cookery activities or whenever necessary.

16/1/2025 Geography: Weather- This week we explored 'rain', we sang songs about the rain and then went outside wearing rainsuits to explore activities such as hosepipe and umbrellas , flicking paint to make raindrops and a water play and sprinkling toys.

16/1/2025 PSHRE: Visit from the Pat dog - We enjoyed a visit form Val and Ronnie the PAT dog. We waited patiently taking turns to carefully stroke Ronnie and brush his hair.

15/1/2025 : Science - We visited Seaton Beach to begin to explore the seaside. Whilst at the beach we collected shells.

14/1/2025 RE:Islam - We experienced washing our hands and feet to explore the practise of 'Wudu'.

9/12/25 RE: Celebrating Christmas - We made salt dough and then created our own tree decorations.

5/12/25 RE: Celebrating Christmas - To explore how people celebrate Christmas we created and decorated our own cardboard Christmas trees.

4/12/25 Dough Disco - We take part in dough disco to build up our fine motor skills.

2/12/25 RE - Celebrating Christmas - We have begun to explore how people celebrate Christmas and we decorated a Christmas tree.

20/11/24 Communication Skills: Each day we develop our communication skills at snack-time using PECS to help us.

19/11/24 Seaton Park: We had a visit to Seaton Park to practise some turn taking skills.

12/11/24 Maths: We have been practising our counting skills.

11/11/24 Music: We have been practising familiar songs such as 'Wheels on the Bus' and exploring and practising the actions. We have also explored using instruments to join in with familiar songs.

7/11/24 Rebound: Each week we take part in rebound sessions and focus on physical development and communication skills.

6/11/24 Bonfire Night Activities: Team South America (Jaguars, Anacondas, Caimans, Toucans and Llamas) took part in some Bonfire Night related activities such as eating hotdogs, eating marshmallows, watching Mentos and lemonade fireworks and experiencing party poppers and party cannons,

4/11/2024 Art: printing - we created firework pictures by selecting our favourite colours then we used a paint brush to dip into the paint and then make firework patterns on the black card.

22/10/24 Liz Million: We enjoyed working with Liz Million and worked hard drawing our own pictures.

October: Reading Skills - we have been developing our own individual reading skills.

October: Music - Action Songs

October PE: Movement to Music - We enjoyed joining in with a range of action songs using movements such as jumping, clapping, skipping, wiggling, stomping, turning around, running and moving backwards.

September: Speaking and Listening - We listened to the story Kitchen Disco, then we had a karaoke party and we chose a rhyme and used the microphone to sing to it.

September Science: Exploring Materials - Plastic

Litearcy: Kitchen Disco - We listened to the story Kitchen Disco and used a PECS board to find and name the different fruit in the story. We then used a PECS boards to select different colours of paint to colour different fruits from the story.
