Spring Term Planning 2025 - Anaconda Class: Topic Web

11.04.25 SENSORY PLAY: Can the children find the Easter Eggs in each sensory tray. How many eggs did they find?

11.04.25 ART & DESIGN/RE The children have been decorating their own Easter Egg using a variety of coloured paint. EASTER PHOTO SHOOT: The children enjoyed trying on Easter glasses and bunny ear hairbands and looking at themselves in the mirror!

11.04.25 RE/LITERACY: EASTER The children have enjoyed listening to their teacher Jane, reading them the story of Easter. They have been answering comprehension questions using a variety of communication in print symbols. We identified all the different characters in the story. We had our very own last supper together, eating bread and drinking red juice. We then looked at some picture cards and sequenced them in the correct order of the story.

10.04.25 Easter Bunnies! We were pleasantly suprised this afternoon when two Easter Bunnies hopped into our classroom with a trailer full of chocolate Easter Eggs. We were able to choose our favourite one each!

10.04.25 RE: EASTER We visited St Hild's Church today and had our annual Easter Service. Andrew and Jack were the two disciples in the story. All our children were fantastically behaved in church, they loved singing all the Easter songs!

09.04.25 RE/ART Creating our own Easter Chick, Easter Cards!

08.04.25 EARLY TALK BOOST Jake and Tizzy Book 6 Hide and Seek - The children have been building sentences using positional language e.g. on, under and in. We have been looking closely at the Tizzy picture cards. Our teacher has been modelling the language for each card, e.g, 'Tizzy is on the chair' or 'Tizzy is under the rug' etc. We have enjoyed singing and acting out the song: 'Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed'.The children have loved playing their own game of hide and seek in our classroom!

07.04.25 GEOGRAPHY: WEATHER FORECASTS We have been watching a weather forecast on the IWB. We identified all the different weather symbols. We then created our own weather forecast on a UK map. Then the children looked closely at a weekly weather map and together we identified what the weather was going to be like each day.

07.04.25 MATHS: MASS The children have been using the balance scales to identify from choice of two, which piece of numicon is the heaviest and which piece is the lighest.

03.04.25 LITERACY: THE GIRL, THE BEAR AND THE MAGIC SHOES The children have really enjoyed this book! The children can identify all the different shoes Josephine's magic shoes turns into. We have been drawing and labeling all of her shoes, and making a list of all the different places she went to while running away from the bear. Together, we have been matching up beginnings and endings of sentences and answering questions about the story.

02.04.25 WRITING: Together, we identified and put the letters of the alphabet in correct order. The children then wrote out the letters of the alphabet themselves. The children tried hard to use a tripod grip with increasing control.

02.04.25 SCIENCE, HABITATS IN HARTLEPOOL: BEACH After visiting the Headland Beach, we identified the different features of the beach and looked at what animals lives there too. We discussed whether we would find certain animals e.g. fish, crabs, lobster, starfish, seal, jellyfish, octopus, seagull etc. in the sea, sand or rock-pools.

01.04.25 MEASURE: MASS We have been exploring what happens when the children put different objects in the balance scales. We are beginning to identify which object is the heaviest and which object is the lightest.

01.04.25 COMPUTING: OPENING AND EXPLORING PROGRAMS After lunch, our children have 'select a song' time. They have the opportunity to explore a pictorial menu and choose a desired song. Once they click on the desired picture they can access and explore the content.

31.03.25 COMPUTING: PICTORIAL ALGORITHMS The children sequenced the nursery rhyme picture cards in the correct order. They could identify many parts of an algorithm there was. We had to debug and develop our logical reasoning when the picture cards were not in the correct order.

28.03.25 WRITING: SQUIGGLE WHILST YOU WIGGLE! We love this activity because it incorporates dance, music and large movements which help us develop our fine muscle control that we need for writing.

27.03.25 SCIENCE HABITATS IN HARTLEPOOL: BEACH We visited the Headland Beach. We explored an identified the different features of the beach and looked at what animals lives there too. We collected interesting objects in our buckets e.g seaweed, shells, rocks etc. Before we came back to school, we sat down together on the bench and had a delicious ice cream!

26.03.25 COMPUTING UNPLUGGED: (Physical Development Coding) The children have started following simple pictorial algorithms. They followed the ‘Dino Hop’ footprints by stepping forward, jumping forwards, hopping, turning etc.

26.03.25 GEOGRAPHY: The children have been learning about all of the different types of weather we have whilst exploring different props, they had lots of fun!

25.03.25 ART: Anaconda class have enjoyed making cards for Mother's Day!

24.03.25 PHSE: In PHSE Anacondas have been learning about unkind words and standing up for themselves.

24.03.25 MATHS: In maths, Anaconda Class have been learning about adding one more from a given number, take one away from a given number.

21.03.25 - PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT: REBOUND Not only have we been enjoying our physical regulation this morning, but we have been improving our balance, coordination, tone and cardiovascular fitness. Our Anaconda children love this enjoyable, stimulating activity.

20.03.25 EARLY TALK BOOST: Our children have been reading the book: "Jake is Busy". The children love taking an active part in the story, answering comprehension questions verbally and using PECS. We have been looking closely at different verbs (actions words). We have been singing: 'This is the way...' and acting out a a variety of doing words e.g. brushing, washing, sleeping, running, kicking, walking, eating, drinking etc.

20.03.25 PHYSICAL EDUCATION: We explored ‘Twedddle Farms’ outdoor activities. The children were able to link specific movements with different play equipment. They absolutely loved jumping on the huge, bouncing pillow!

20.03.25 - SCIENCE: We visited Tweddle Farm this afternoon to observe the different animals in their habitat. With support, the children could identify all the different animals and answer questions about the features of the farm.

19.03.25 GEOGRAPHY: Each morning, after morning greetings, we sing the weather song. Following this, we all look out the window and discuss what the weather is like today. The children choose the correct weather symbol and place it on our weather chart.

17.03.25 SCIENCE We have been looking closely at a farm and identifying what types of animals live here. We have been identifying all the different features in the farm environment and drawing symbolic representations of them including a farm house, duck pond, fields, a barn, muddy area for the pigs etc. We have been listening to the sounds each of the farm animals make, identifying them and mimicking them.

16.3.25 HISTORY: Anaconda Class have been comparing clothes from the past to present from doctors, fire fighter and police.

14.3.25 PE: The children enjoyed refining their physical skills in their PE lesson by balancing, jumping and crawling. They had lots of fun!

14.03.25 RE: Holi Festival! Some of the children from Anaconda Class had a brilliant time at Springwell Schools Holi Festival, the festival of colour! They had great fun throwing paint at each other and getting messy out on the yard.

13.03.25 MATHS: The children have been using a five or ten frame to support them to take away one or say what is one less than a given number.

12.03.25 SCIENCE DAY - All the children took part in Science Day, a sensory based event held in the hall. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the event, explored all the different stations and were engaged throughout. We had so much fun!

11.03.25 BRITISH SCIENCE WEEK: LET'S CREATE AN ANIMAL The children created a new type of animal using empty recycling boxes that can adapt to a given environment. We cut out body parts and animal features from British Science pack and glued them onto the boxes. The children named their new animal and discussed which environment they lived in e.g. desert, forest, Arctic, sea or hot/cold place.

10.03.25 SCIENCE: A FARM HABITAT - The children drew their own picture of a farm, identifying all the different features including a farmhouse, barn, fields too grow crops, fields to rear animals, a tractor, duck pond, muddy pig pen area etc. Then the children identified all the different types of animals (e.g. cows, horses, sheep, pigs, donkey,goose etc) that lives on a farm.

06.03.25 PHYSICAL EDUCATION: OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES The children visited the Headland Park this afternoon, they developed their balance, directional movements and physical skills while exploring all the different play equipment.

03.03.25 LITERACY - This week in Anaconda class, we have been reading the story "The Runaway Pancake". The children all love the book and love getting involved with all the props to help tell the story.

WORLD BOOK DAY 2025: All the children enjoyed sharing their favourite stories with each other today. Some of our children have made some fantastic wooden spoon story characters!

05.03.25 PANCAKE DAY: We followed a recipe, weighed out ingredients and made our own delicious pancakes in class today! Our teacher brought in lots of different toppings for us to taste (e,g, sugar, sliced bananas and oranges, honey, lemon, strawberry and chocolate sauce) and we chose our preferred topping to put on our pancakes.

04.03.25 RE: RAMADAN The children enjoyed making their own Ramadan, sun catcher lanterns using different coloured tissue paper. To make them extra decorative, the children sprinkled them with glitter and added jewels.

03.03.25 RE: RAMADAN We read the story called: 'Rameena’s Ramadan'. We discussed how Ramadan is a very important time from Muslims and it lasts for 29-30 days. We spoke about how they go to Mosques to pray to their god called Allah. We discussed all the different things muslin people do during Ramadan e.g. give up bad habits, fasting, pray and read the Qur’an, celebrate after fasting, Eid Al-Fitr, wear their best clothes, share a luxury family meal etc.

21.02.25 PHSRE: HAND WASHING The school nurses came into school today and read the children a story called: 'I Don't Want To Wash My Hands!' by Tony Ross. The children put special soap on their hands and placed them under a light box which illuminated all the germs. The children washed all their germs off their hands with soap and water. The nurses explained the importance of washing our hands regularly and when we should do so.

20.02.25 MUSIC: French Songs - The children have enjoyed listening to a variety of French songs. Today, we learned both the English and French versions of the songs; ‘Frere Jacques’ and ‘Clic Clac, Dans Les Mans’ today.

20.02.25 SCIENCE We visited Ward Jackson’s Park this afternoon to observe different habitats and what lives there. We could hear the birds singing in the trees and we saw a few birds fly above us in the sky. GEOGRAPHY However, it started to heavily rain and we had to go back to school because we were soaking wet. We had experienced been out in a heavy rain fall and we laughed jogging back to the bus.

19.02.25 MATHS: MONEY We have been recognising, identifying and sorting coins according to their value; 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 & £2 coins.

18.02.25 PHSRE CELEBRATING DIFFERENCE PIECE 4: HOMES We looked at a variety of photos showing different types of homes. The children were identifying and matching the different homes and writing a list. We all had a go at beating our new chime bar during 'calm me time'.

17.02.25 ART: CREATING COLLAGE OF SEATON SEA FRONT We took photos of the sea front, and we asked the children what they could see? The children said they could see the sea, sky, clouds, sand and people walking on the beach. We created a collage of the beach in the style of Megan Coyle using different coloured tissue paper.

LITERACY: The Sunny Day - The children have been reading and answering questions about the story. We have had fun, creating our own shadows using a torch. The children carefully drew around the shape of the different shadows they created.

14.02.25 LITERACY: We have been reading the story called: 'Happy Valentines Day, Mouse'. We then made our own valentines day card, to give to the person who we love. The children collage their own red, heart sun catcher too! We have displayed them on our classroom window so the light can shine though them.

13.02.25 WORLD BOOK DAY TOKENS: This afternoon, we went to WHSmiths to look at the books. The children choose their favourite book and we used our tokens to purchase them. The children took their books home to share and read with their parents.

13.02.25 Valentines Messy Play - The children enjoyed making love potions during literacy today. They used some lovely language while exploring, mixing, stirring and even eating our ingredients.

13.02.25 MATHS: MONEY The children have been recognising and sorting out the all the different coins (1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1, £2) in our number day donation box, into separate containers. Once the coins were sorted, we were able to count the total amount of coins and we amazing raised £81.90 for our school fund.

12.02.25 MUSIC: THERE'S A WORM AT THE BOTTOM Of THE GARDEN - We watched the song play on IWB Mr Tumble Songs | There’s a Worm at the Bottom of the Garden 🐛 We encouraged the children to sing the words and join in doing the Makaton signing.

11.02.25 COMPUTING: SAFER INTERNET DAY! The children enjoyed listening to the story called: 'The Cutest Little Alien' on Inclusive Stories. It had a modern take on the classic stranger danger story. The children have been celebrating Safer Internet Day by talking about their trusted adult to speak to when pop ups appear while online.

10.02.25 - PSHRE - Jigsaw, Piece 3: We have been learning about how all families are different. We sorted some family photos into two groups; 'child and adult families' and 'animal families'.

07.02.25 PHYSICAL EDUCATION: OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES The children enjoyed developing their balance, directional movements and physical skills on the Trim Trail this afternoon.

07.02.25 NUMBER DAY! We have been dancing to number songs, singing number songs, representing numbers with numicon, exploring coins, chalking numbers on the playground and baking our own special number biscuits!

06.02.25 MUSIC - Focus: There’s a worm at the bottom of the garden. The children have enjoyed singing the words to the song and joining in with Makaton signing.

05.02.25 MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING WEEK We explored the importance of expressing our emotions.

03.02.25 PHYSICAL EDUCATION: OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES The children visited ward Jackson Park this afternoon, they developed their balance, directional movements and physical skills while exploring all the different play equipment.

02.02.25 COMPUTING: WHAT IS AN ALGORITHM? We have been learning that an algorithm is a list of step-by-step instructions in order to get a task done. Together, we looked closely at a pictorial hand washing algorithm. The children had a go at creating their own hand washing algorithm by sequencing the pictures in the correct order. Once they completed their algorithm they followed it to wash their own hands.

30.01.25 READING: We visited the Community Hub Central Library in our town centre and enjoyed looking at and reading some of the different books.

29.01.25 CHINESE NEW YEAR! We have all been learning about Chinese new year. All the children made a collage of the snake, they all had fun exploring the Sensory tray which included noodles, rice, biscuits and Angel delight!

28.01.25 STORY AND CRAFT SESSION: Joanna from the library came into our class today to read the children a story about birds. The children explored all the multi-sensory story props using their senses with interest. The children then created their own little bird using a variety of art material and feathers. How amazing do they look!

24.01.25 PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT Rebound: The children have been improving their fitness and balancing skills by bouncing on the trampoline. They have been developing their listening skills and following direct instructions.

23.01.25 WRITING - DOUGH DISCO: The children are developing their fine motor skills by moulding the dough in variety of ways e.g. squashing, rolling, pinching etc. which in turn helps to improve their mark making and writing skills!

22.01.25 LITERACY Text: 'The Wind Blew' - The children loved feeling the wind machine blow on them, they giggled when the wind machine blew away all the different objects away in the story. After the story, the children enjoyed singing and dancing with the parachute to the song: 'It's a Windy Day'.

21.01.25 OUR FANTASTIC CLASSROOM SWING! Sam helped us set up our classroom swing today, the children were so happy to have a go on it!

20.01.25 HISTORY: CLOTHES OF THE PAST We had lots of fun exploring and dressing up in a variety of different historic clothes and costumes from the distant past. The children looked at themselves in the mirror and we ended our lesson by having a fun Historical costume fashion show/parade.

20.01.25 OUR ASSEMBLY: Today we teamed up with Jaguar Class and together we recreated a multi-sensory story of 'The Wind Blew' for our parents and carers. All the children took an active part in the story and helped to sing and sign to our weather song at the end. You were all super stars!

20.01.25 PHSE: CALM ME TIME! The children listened to the Chime with Jigsaw Jenie, as they looked at the relaxing pictures on the IWB, it helped them feel calm and peaceful. ​Jigsaw Jenie encouraged the children to take a big deep breath in through their noses and puff out their rainbow breath through their mouths.

16.1.25 LITERACY: We have been enjoying our new story 'The Wind Blew!'

15.01.25 PHSRE through Cookery - The children made shortbread biscuits. They participated in group work and they all were actively involved in the development of the task. They took turns with others with minimal adult support and they could use a spoon to mix up the ingredients in the bowl.

06.01.25 ART & DESIGN: We have been learning about the famous artist called Megan Coyle. She created collages entirely from magazine strips with a process that she calls “painting with paper.”
