Children spent an afternoon learning how to weave a basic pattern using different coloured paper. They took their time and put their fine motor skills to practice by repeating basic pattern that went like this: "over, under, over, under, then slide it to the edge". The result was an amazing and colourful piece of weaving that all of the Shark Class was very proud of and happy to show it to one another.
Children were discussing what Diversity means and why it is important to us. They discussed their views and opinions, took turns to write them down on a piece of paper and shared ideas with one another. Children showed an amazing understanding as of why it is ok to be different from other people and why we shouldn't judge people if they are different.
English (Reading) task explored the author's purpose and view on the book called "Iceberg".
Children had to show what they can recall from the story as well as explain why the author written that particular book. It was very interesting to see how children perceived author's feelings about the book and Antarctica in particular, as the whole story takes place in that part of the world.
Children had to give instructions to a programmable toy. They worked in pairs to plan, design and draw a sequence of instructions on a piece of paper. After that children learned how to program a Bee-Bot by giving it correct instructions to direct them to a specific place on the map. They had a lot of fun and worked greatly as a team while learning new skills.
A small group of children were practicing sorting different 2D and 3D shapes into groups depending on its qualities as a part of their maths lesson. Children showed an amazing understanding of identifying properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
A group of children were practicing how to multiply 3 digits by 1 digit (with exchange) using their whiteboards and whiteboard pens as a part of their maths lesson.
Children explored some interesting facts about King of England Richard iii. They learned about Shakespeare's famous play about Richard iii and how he was portrayed in his play.
Shark Class celebrated an Indian (Hindu) festival called "Holi" as a part of the whole school activity. This celebration signifies the end of winter and beginning of spring as well as the blossoming of love and a celebration of friends and family. Children enjoyed throwing colourful powder and water at one another outdoors and had lots of fun!
Shark Class took part in various fun and educational activities to help celebrate Science Day! We particularly enjoyed the finale when Amy put mentos into a bottle of coke and it erupted like a volcano.
As part of our 'Seasons' topic, Shark class went on a walk to see if we could see the changing seasons and any signs of spring. We noticed that the birds were starting to build their nests and there were lots of signs of new life!
After working hard on our Spring walk, we stayed and enjoyed the park for our Golden Time.
We all played well together and sometimes had to work as a team to operate the play equipment. It was so much fun but we were all very tired when we got back to school!
The school nurse visited Shark class to discuss the importance of handwashing. Children applied a special liquid and looked at their hands under an ultraviolet light to see the dirt.
English (Reading)
Children read a story called "Iron Man" by Ted Hughes. After that there were 5 story related questions to answer and children had an opportunity to answer them to their best understanding and interpretation.
In today's lesson, we had a go at making ebooks. We had to add our own pictures and text to retell a fairytale. Some of us even recorded our own voices so the book read to the reader!
Children took part in a Panathlon Sports event that took place at Brierton Sports Centre. They worked brilliant as a team and competed amongst other schools in various sport disciplines. Children had an opportunity to show their individual skills, abilities and strength while completing each challenge and each received a well deserved medal at the end of the event!
Children chose their favourite poem that they written as a class and practices reading it aloud using expression, fluency and appropriate pace. Afterwards, children evaluated their performance collectively.
Today, we have been enjoying all things numbers!
Shark class were set a challenge to open the box. To do this, they had to work as a team to follow a series of clues, all number related, which were hidden in various places around school. Once the clues were solved, this gave the children the special number to finally unlock the box and reveal their prize. All of the teams managed to solve it but Team 3 were the fastest completing it in 13 minutes!
The children have also enjoyed making their own Top Trump cards and playing their friends. As well as creating multiplication fortune tellers.
We have been working on our digital skills in Computing and have been using a drawing app called Paintz. Over the last few weeks, we have been learning how we can use different tools.
Today, our challenge was to recreate an artist's (Sonia Delaunay) piece of art. We used a collection of rectangles and squares. How do you think we did?
For Science this year, we are learning about changing weather. This week we are investigating the enquiry question: Does wind always blow in the same direction?
We created our own weathervanes and placed them outside to see whether the wind was blowing North, East, South or West. We will continue to do this for the next week and then compare our results to answer the question.
This half term, we are learning the skills for basketball. Our task this week was to work on our dribbling skills by learning how to control the ball when we are standing still and then when moving.
